Default Kohler power unit w/ L654 engine: ignition questions

I've got a Hesco power unit with a Kohler L654 engine (a Kohler 7.5C generator).

The distributor cap and rotor are shot, and Kohler wants over $200 for just those two parts (well, my local Kohler dealer does). There's gotta be a better way... Any thoughts? I could convert to electronic ignition to get rid of the points and capacitor, but what can I do about the cap and rotor?

Thanks.

Keith

Check out ebay. I bought a whole mag for like $25 w/cap and rotor in great shape. Good luck.
