Default N.C. Thompson Reaper

Had the good fortune of obtaining this very rare N.C. Thompson Independant self raking reaper last fall from an estate auction. It was built in Rockford, Illinois and was a John P. Manny design. Manny contracted with Thompson to build the reapers he designed until he formed his own company in the 1860's. Then both companies shared in the manufacture of these reapers. It is quite a time capsule,as the wood is all original except for a couple of sweep boards and shows very little use. It has the serial number of 1073 stenciled on it and all of the major wood parts have the same number stamped into them. The last patent date listed is 1879. Thompson manufactured these Independent reapers until about 1883-84, and went out of business a couple years later. Upon getting it home, I jacked up the drive wheel, oiled everything up and it works like a dream. Can't wait to try it out this summer.
