In today's "not my fault" society, there is no good way to help a person out - just about anything you do can result in a court case or insurance claim.

With that in mind, I do not ever loan generators, jumper cables, chainsaws etc. I do offer to sell "as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied" and advise the buyer that I might be interested in buying the item after they are done with it, at a price to be determined at that time, and if the item is in essentially the same condition it left in.

So far, 1 taker, that generator will probably never come back.

On the same line, I sold a generator today, a 3600 watt screamer clone. The buyer asked how to hook it up to there house, I just said they will have to talk to an electrician.

Make sure that you throw a charger on those BFBs ~once per month, or you'll lose them.
I got a good laugh when I seen the double muffler for the first time. It needs it. When I was load testing the AJ, my ears got use to the 3600 rpm and loud screamer. Immediately after I was done with the AJ screamer I started up the 1800 rpm BFA and I actually thought the BFA had a problem and was about to die out since it was running very slow until I realized my ears were playing tricks when I looked at my JohnnyC kilowatt box and seen ~60 Hz and perfect voltage.

Demonstrating 3600 screamer of another brand for a customer reminded me of how much I wanted it gone. Love these quite 1800 Onans. You can talk next to them. With the 3600 unit had to take the customer around corner of the building to talk.

Saturday Update:

As mentioned earlier I source tubular steel for fabricating the AJ's cart handle/lifting bar. Got it free from work.

I have a vision of how I plan to fabricate the handle/lifting bar with the least effort and keeping it ugly (remember, this AJ will be a loaner generator so I don't want it to look pretty).

I made a few rough cuts and leaned the tubes in the general location where they will mount on the AJ's cart as seen in the picture below. It will look a little better once I resize the length of the tubes and notch and weld the cross tubes, so use your imagination when looking at the basic thought.

This evening was the first time I looked my 2.5 AJ in close detail. Since my 2LK project is nearing it's end with only a few things to complete, I started to prepare for work on the AJ.

As mentioned in earlier postings, this AJ will be a loaner generator. I DO NOT plan to go crazy on a perfect paint job although I will ensure it is in 100000000% A-1 mechanical operating condition. I was toying with the idea of painting is PINK so when it's loaned out, without doubt the person that I loan it to will not want to keep it.

Currently, the AJ is painted a PUKE green by a previous owner years ago. (see first picture below). That color has to go. I removed the control box cover and now know the original color. I compounded and polished the underside of the control box cover to reveal the beautiful original paint. I also compared the original AJ paint to my repainted LK which is a very similar green metallic and my 1980's-1990's Onans that have a solid green paint. The second picture below shows a side by side comparison. I am now thinking of going with the original AJ metallic green from the early 1970's. I think I have a good sample for color scanning to get an exact metallic green paint.

Lastly, I discovered a sealed relay in the AJ's control box. I'm not sure if this was factory or not, but it looks to have the proper factory mounts for the control box and this AJ is from Pennsylvania. The third picture below shows the inside of the control box.

My AJ is pull start only. No electric stuff at all. Just the output wires in a junction box with a light bulb.

Although my AJ is electric and pull start, there are hardly any wires in the control box compared to my other sets. It appears the wiring if perfect and will not require a rewire job, just a little cleaning.

Today I started to remove some of the tins and did some work on the cart. There is more work to be done on the cart, but it was getting late. As for the 2.5AK, I will clean her up, fix the tins (dented) and get it ready for pink paint. Again, this is a loaner and I don't want it looking pretty. I only want to get the AJ running in tip-top shape to be 100% reliable, but ugly as sin when it comes time to loan it out. Actually, this set runs perfect with full output without doing a thing to it. The ONLY problem I found is a broken mechanical fuel pump and since I plan to gravity feed this AJ, the fuel pump will be eliminated.

Below are several picture I snapped today. I welded the grab/push bars to the ugly-azz cart and roughly mounted a gas tank using zip-ties to get an idea of what is will look like when done.

update: I noticed that several of the pictures are sideways. This seem to happen when I load the pictures directly from one of my PCs from time to time. Please twist your head sideways to best view the sideways pictures.

If it were me Johnny, I think I’d try to mount the tank under the engine... I know most new sets are build with the tank above but the OCD in me hates fuel over a hot engine. It would also show off the generator itself more in my opinion. Does it have a fuel pump or could you use a pulse type pump
