If you don't want to ship it that far, I'm closer.

I'll take that into consideration.. my cousin in West Palm beach has a shipping hook up.. 480 to ship it from l.a to key largo door to door.. has to be under 3000 pounds and 48x96 and 60 inches or lower

Well not by me but my 12DJC in Hollywood, FL has been powering three separate households in the area for four days non stop via extension cords. I guess they rigged up a nurse tank with several gallons of diesel fuel at the ready and all is working well. I have no idea as to loading or balance but my buddy down there says each household is tied to one phase of the three phase output? Oh well, it hasn't tripped up a single time I'm told so assuming none of the houses are pulling their full load through entrance panels. Be interesting to see some photos of what I'm told of the operation.

All affected seem to be grateful to have power available as commercial is still down in that area.

He kept a running log on the 12DJC and it was shut off once per day to check the oil level in the engine. None was added, but it is showing right about 1/2 quart low after the extended near six day run. Total run time was 137 hours on meter with just over 146 gallons of #2 "on road" diesel fuel consumed. It was plumbed into his semi tractor fuel tanks so had a good amount available.

Think I'm going to call this one good without need for further testing.

I have to work in Palm Beach, FL at a radar site next week, so will plan on driving down and bring it back with me. Was planned to work there this week but the trip has been postponed due to storm damage to navigational facilities that office maintains. I offered to help but so far they've got it covered citing they didn't take the damage other places did.

Another good Onan story for the books I'm thinking.....

Thanks,

They sure kept it loaded, rated fuel consumption is 1.05 GPH at full load.

Wayne- loaded for sure, and the estimated fuel usage is pretty darn close, 143.85 would be the Onan estimate, hope they are all that close considering the age of some of the gens.

I don't know. I've never physically seen the set. I purchased it from the NASA pretty much sight unseen. All I know from the tag #'s is it's a 12.0DJC built in January of 1984. I assume the totalizer meter is correct in operation but again, I really don't know anything about the set. Who knows who was running what. They were supposed to only run freezers and refrigerators to keep foodstuffs from spoiling but you know how people will push the envelope for convenience such as air conditioners when it's above 90 degrees. If there are no faults, there are no problems right????

I'm glad it got a good exercise regardless. With that much usage and little oil consumption to show for it, I'm quite impressed for my $135.00 purchase price..... Of course I have to get it up here but that's going to be a washout as the govt. is going to pay my travel due to working in the area next week.

I know; the pain is sometimes unbearable.....

The $10.00 purchase "premium", is what really hurts.

Sounds like you got a heck of a deal. Glad to hear that you got some of your tax dollars back. The only way I receive government aid is when I get a bargain at a government auction.

This is a case where "Paying it Forward" was recognized, and applied. The unit was purchased legitimate through auction, and the rules complied with. Nothing skirted. Yes, it was a good deal. However the seller, and broker, both know I'm the end user, and it's not an item for resale.

I've had such good service from my other 12.0DJC I wanted another and knew the existence of this one being surplus; hence the initial inquiry, and result. I am also working on another with a burnt out power generator section, (I'm told) for the engine.

I am pleased this set was able to provide it's intended service to the benefit of others in their time of need.

Thanks,

I'm flying down to West Palm Beach FL in the morning to assist in some radar equipment upgrades and optimization. I'll finally get a look at my 12.0DJC as I'll visit my buddy whom lives south of there in Hollywood and whom used the set to power his, and neighbor's houses during the power outages. Will be down there almost a week so may get it shipped back to the shop while there if he's not going to be on the road for a while. I understand they are still cleaning up in places down there.

Got a cart for my 12.5 JC. Mounted an electrical panel on it and started to work on the mounts. I tried to cut the welds on the "U" channel that was welded to some old tubing. Turns out they welded it on the inside as well as outside. I just gave up and will make new mounting channels.
Looked at making some side panels but don't know if it is worth it. Also trying to figure out a fuel tank. I would really like to find an old truck saddle tank. Might look at some truck junk yards.

Today I decided to cut holes in the side of my ATS and mount some receptacles since I had nothing better to do. I will figure out later where I go from here. Maybe I'll make the ATS into a coffee table or something

Wow. I leave a hot and humid Central Illinois where the forecasted temperature is 92 degrees today, and fly to West Palm Beach Florida where the temperature is 86 degrees and about 55% humidity. Beginning to think I'm living wrong.
