Default Onan 6.0 KW YCB Ariens GT14H Generator

It mounted perfectly, the front implement attachment point matched up and there were holes in the frame for the braces. I just have two belts, but I wanted to see if a 190.00 gamble on this generator would fit my tractor, it does.

Now that's cool! What rpm do you have to run the tractor at? 3600 rpm?

The service manual on these air cooled single cylinder cast iron engines warns against idling the engines for any extended period of time and that the engines should be run at between 3/4 and full throttle to adequately cool the engine. The later twin engine Kohler KT17 aluminum block engine suffered thousands of engine failures do to this warning not being heeded which proved to fatal on the aluminum block engines in a very short time period. However to answer your question, I don't know at what rpm the PTO shaft turns, however I need to remove the generator to install the electric PTO clutch that I removed to service. Before I reinstall the PTO clutch I will use my Borg-Warner tach on the end of the crankshaft to determine rpm at idle, half, three-quarter, and full throttle, Then I will take these same measurements on the end of the PTO shaft going to the generator. Considering that the the crankshaft runs around 3600 at full throttle on these engines and there is a 5 inch double pulley on the electric PTO clutch going down to another 5 inch double pulley that drives the PTO shaft I would say that it may be possible that the engine rpm may be increased by the time to turns the generator shaft. But I may be wrong, so I guess I will see.

You could use a "Kill-a-Watt" Meter for around $25.00 to check for 60 Cycle current & it also gives you a read out for Volt's Amp's Watt's & etc. A very useful tool found at most big box stores.

I looked up about a dozen build sheets and they all were 3600rpm. Unless the pulley is sized to bring the speed down on the motor.

I noticed that as well, so if you could please tell me how the speed of the engine translates or is effected to create a higher or lower speed to the input shaft of the generator. Most engines of the same era as this generator were rated at 3600 rpm as a top speed, however I do know that in the transfer of power through a larger pulley might increase that speed, is that right?

It really depends on what the rated kw of your generator is and the rated up of your engine.. if the gen is 4 kw and you have a 14 hp engine you can set up a pully that will allow the engine to run at 2500 rpm etc and make 10 hp to supply enough power to make the 8 kw.. you need 2 hp per 1000 watts.. and need to take into consideration of lost power through the belts and shafts

[QUOTE and need to take into consideration of lost power through the belts and shafts[/QUOTE]
I have a 14 hp engine, the generator is 6.0kw, that allows for a 2hp loss from the crankshaft to the generator shaft. Thanks
