Default Seaboard Air Line Railroad Equipment Trust

Here's a cast aluminum sign that was unearthed this week . I would like to find out any information that I can before I decide what to do with it.
The sign measures 28 inches by 8 inches and about 3/8 of an inch thick.
The sign reads ..
Seaboard Airline railroad equipment trust,
series y;
Mercantile-safe deposit & Trust Company, Baltimore, Maryland, trustee, owner, lessor.

Today they simply stencil that info on with paint. Those plates likely date back to the wood sided freight cars.

So do you think that these plates were mounted on the sides of old wooden boxcars ?
Or do you think it is possible that they were mounted near the entrance of a building?

From what I've seen Those type of notices are still on modern freight cars of certain specialized commodities. Railroads have a great many creditors, so presumably as a requirement of said creditors they have such notices posted on rail cars because the rolling stock can end up on different roads subject to different creditors.

Such plaques were in common use into the 1960s. It can't be newer than 1967 when SAL merged with ACL to become Seaboard Coast Line. The trust were similar to leasing and had a tax advantage to the roads that used them.

Thank you for the information about this old cast placard.
My girlfriend has decided that I have enough train stuff hanging around.... . ( Like she would know)
So she has decided to sell it on eBay.
If anyone is interested I'll post a link to the listing.
