Update on the registry:

10 Rockford Built Side shafts (2, 4, 6, 8 HP)
1 Rockford Built Pushrod engine (3 HP)
25 Type C

rudytoottooty,

What is the serial number on your engine?

Dale,

You have the early/late on the hopper lettering backwards. From engines with known serial numbers and pictures in original condition, it looks like the script was first and then the block was later.

GW Eddy,

I don't think I have the serial number for your 1st engine.

The Independent Harvester Company was liquidated in December 1917 as per this magazine's article.

Jeff, that is a nice article and pictures about The Independent Engine. The engine seed that your Dad & Grandpa planted, sprouted and took root, Ha Ha.

Ryan,

I have a 2HP Type C Independent on original Cart. Please add it to your Engine Registry. Serial No. 3445.

Thank you,

Thanks Rudy. This is the latest Type C on the list. The earliest being number 1032.

Does the engine have any of the original name on the hopper left? Is it block letters or script?

Does the name plate say "THE INDEPENDENT HARVESTER COMPANY INC" OR "INDEPENDENT HARVESTER CO LTD"? I have noticed that the later engines say LTD.

There are now 10 sideshafts, 1 3hp pushrod, and 28 Type C on the list. Please keep them coming everybody.

The picture I have attached has a date of Dec. 1920 with the letterhead of Independent Harvester Company, Ltd. I think we can draw a line in the sand of December of 1917 and the 2 different tags that I have pointed out in post #27.

Looks like a nice Engine! Does your engine have the Governor Guard on it? If it does, you are lucky most, were taken off and discarded. Is it on original trucks. Congratulations on your score!

The Gov. Guard was mounted with a 1/4" X 20 stove bolt with a lock washer, but the surface of the mounting leg was cast with a TAPER so the lock washer didn't do its job. What I did was use a SPOTFACER on the area of the 1/4" hole to make it flat on the one that I had and the guard stayed tight after that. Just a tip!

Ryan Anderson is keeping the Serial # list now. Modify the Gov. guard as I suggested & it will stay in place.
