Default 1966 Onan CCK-MS/1196g Engine on a Miller Welder

I need help on how the ignition system works on my onan cck-ms/1196g. I have everything I need and I have replaced the coil, points, condenser/capacitor, and have confirmed that I am getting power(12volts) to the coil and the points box. Can someone help me out, I still canít get spark and Iím not too familiar with battery ignition systems like this. HELP

I bought a new coil, new points, new condenser, and checked everything else over. I noticed today that my 1.75 ohm 25 watt resistor is bad. Gonna order one of those and see if it works.

I had replaced all those ignition parts on mine with Onan parts and it still would not get fire to the plug. The strap in the points was touching the mounting screw for the points, under it. I got a flatter dead screw & filed a notch on the strap , and she fired right up.

You can download the engine manual here:

http://www.skilledcrafting.com/onanf...0(05-1982).pdf

Using a voltmeter, check for 12 volts at the positive terminal of the coil when the engine is cranking. If you have a 12 volt coil, you should have battery voltage at the coil positive terminal when cranking. If you have a 6 volt coil you will have a resistor in series with the positive coil terminal, and the voltage will be lower.

Connect the ground terminal of a test light to ground. Connect the other terminal of the test light to the negative terminal of the coil. When the engine is cranking the light should flash on and off.

You should also check the bolt. That goes through the point box. Where the wires hook up. Sometimes the insulator will crack letting the bolt ground out. Check the point rod make sure it is flat on the bottom. They can wear to one side which can change your point setting.

Okay so I just replaced my resistor. Still doing the same thing as before, I have 12 volts the entire way through the system, through the coil (primary winding) and up to the points box. Sometimes when I crank it I see a small arc where the points open, but no spark still.

I fixed it, replaced battery with another 12v and I had spark. Got it running great now. I think I may have been the batt all along, who knows. Thanks guys!!
