I found this wrench in my outbuilding. I thought
maybe for oil field or maybe electrical wires might have been put through the holes on top but I really have no idea? Thank you for help. Best regards, Rob |

Its part of a hitch assembly. The holes control the height of the plow tongue. Its important to get it adjusted to the right height because it controls the angle of the plow cutting edge. Too shallow and the plow won't stay in the ground. Too steep and the plow goes too deep. Its also adjusted for soil conditions for the same reason. This article describes making the adjustment, https://books.google.com/books?id=kQ...stment&f=false. The illustration is not exactly like yours but its the same thing.

Dusty bar is right. It was used mostly n one horse drawn plows. I have six of my dad's old plows to restore . Some of them have type hitches . Also you have a wrench . It s the pin that holds the devise to the plow stock. If abolt became loose on a plow you had a tool with you to tighten nut. I bought a bucket at a yard sale sat that had some of these hitches in it.

That makes sense because about 100 yards away from hay barn there used to be a garden and its possible when I was a young lad I may have seen it being plowed by horse. Inside the shed of the barn used to be a horse drawn hay raker. Thank you again.

I have a couple like that from my Grandfathers Barn and they were used on plows like others here have stated.
