Default Onan Cylinder Numbering

Hi,

In following head torque instructions on Onan p224 the drawings show cylinder No. 1 and No. 2. The pics show the heads with the spark plug holes in different places but mine are not like the picture; the plugs are directly on top on both of mine. Which cylinder is 1 and which is 2 if facing the flywheel for instance?

Thanks!

On multi cylinder V and opposed engines one bank has to be forward of the other for the rods to go on the crank. I've only seen one engine where the forward cylinder wasn't #1, I believe it was an IH . Wonder if this holds true for Onans.

Forward being the one closest to the flywheel?

The manual says "No. 1 Cylinder (LH)." LH being left hand I assume. Still, it doesnt say left side while facing flywheel vs left side while facing the shaft. ?

Thanks

Been a long time since I worried about it. But I recall #1 was left side looking from the rear.
