I hope you are not using your idle stop screw to set the no-load engine speed (1800 RPM). That speed should be maintained by governor action only. You should be able to manually move the throttle down to an acutal idle (do this only with NO loads conneted to the generator). Sounds like once it got warmed up it wanted to run considerably faster than it should because it could not close the throttle down.

I'll third this. I had a huge problem with my 12.5JC where as it got loaded it would slow down, turned out the idle stop screw was interfering at the no-load state, so even though I had it adjusted for 1800 RPM, as the genset got loaded, the RPMs would drop because the governor was out of adjustment. Once I backed off the idle stop screw and adjusted the governor, everything started working great.

I pulled the heads from a recently acquired 15 KW JC. Exhaust & head bolts were nearly loose. I was surprised at the amount of carbon & junk built up in the intakes, also in the exhaust ports to a lesser degree. It is a natural gas engine with high compression pistons, no fuel pump & gaseous only carb. I expected the heads to be fairly clean, being gaseous fueled.

Pulled the valves & cleaned it all up, replaced valve seals, reinstalled heads & manifolds. Hope to get it running today, so I can assess the rest of the unit. It needs a good bath, but with a high of 28 this morning & getting colder all day, that will probably not happen.

The idle stop screw is not touching anything, I assume it my gov adjustment and carb adj screws I just have to sit down with the manual and go through everything. It is pretty well spelled out how to do it just need to make the time.

Odd thing you ask. I ran the 6.0djb after adding the BFB (big f##king battery), new cables, and finding a issue with the glow plugs. The glow plugs were getting low voltage,,,not no more. Then I ran the engine under 15amp load for about a hr.

Things are looking up,,,now to adjust the new flight board and get the htz right.

Then interlock, disconnect, and conduit and we are running on all cylinders...

Hoisted my 5cck off the furniture dolly and onto a "800 lb" rated tractor supply garden wagon. Changed the 20 plus year old oil from previous owner and put in Castrol synthetic for a nice oil bath. Dragged the cart and genny to my back yard and natural gas supply. The piece of Chinese junk "800 lb" wagon collapsed with my 35o lb? Cck? Almost fell off the cart. Finally got it running ok on natural gas but my 1/2 inch supply hose needs to be 3/4.....runs at 64 he too high but the circular saw then drops it to 58 and it struggles. Think I should tow it into my walk in finished basement while I find the beer and the remote? Go Patriots! Time to plan next weekends Onan projects!

Billy:the question was "What did you do with your Onan" today. It sounds like maybe you misunderstood.

You noticed that, huh? When I brought my winter project 5CCK into the basement, I put it on my 1000 Lb rated Harbor Freight cart. It moved a few feet, bent the cart, and fell on the ground. It's now on a furniture dolly, almost ready to run. I just need to make some sort of cart for it.
