Default 1979 Onan 10CW Generator

Posted locally is a 10cw from 1979. Its unfortunately trailer mounted. Owner claims it runs perfect but the picture of the electrical box is a mess. Ive seen a few threads that parts are hard to find. Anyone know the dimensions of this generator and its approx weight? The few ive seen on you tube etc are all proapane or CNG. Did they make a gasoline model. Any ideas or thoughts gladly appreciated. Owner asking $400 for running unit.

Can't be from 1979. I went to work at Onan in 1980. They were long gone by then.

oh wow 800 pounds. Don't have anything to move it. I figured it was older then 79 based on appearence. It may have been a typo as well.

They love fuel! Not a real efficient machine but if taken care of will run until the "Second Coming"

Gas hog not really a huge concern. Anyone know the amp output on 110V. Ive looked but no specs really anywhere. 10kw @ 110V is in theory 83 amps. I have a 5000 marquis but looking for more output.

With age and everything else. I would guess around 80 amps.

It loooks to be in an enclosure or cabinet. Did any CW come this way from Onan? It has a lid that open from the side. To access the top of the engine. Looks kind of similiar to the way the old Lincoln welders are in there enclosures.

On a single phase unit the system will produce 4.1 amps per KW at 240 volts or twice that at 120volts. This is true of any sigle phase set. Wether or not the engine can produce the needed horse power is another question. lol

Look carefully at the serial number 668543779 and see if the third digit isn't a letter "B". I may be wrong but if it is a letter "B" instead of the number "8" then the set was built June of 1956.

June of 68 Do you have the model number or did you post it previously? Thats wierd I adjusted my post to read is there a (.) or letter because that changes the serial.

Here is close as I can find though I dont believe it is the one because of the Engine Data Code. They are not the same.

The third symbol looks like a "B". "B" is 1950's so my interpretation is "B" equals 1950's and the 6 just ahead of the "B" adds to 1950 and comes up with 1956. The first 6 is the 6th month or June.

Motorhead I believe you are correct. It looks to read 3R/663C or 6630. A little black shoe polish may enhance it enough to read it better. Either way this is as close as I can get with a build sheet.

Ok I enhanced the picture just enough to read it. It should be 10CW-3R/663C the serial # 66B543379

Actually the picture looked better on my computer.

87 amps total. Thats 43 amps roughly per leg. And two legs in this unit correct. If that is the case. That is much better the 20 amps roughly per leg i have now. Ill use it to power my RV in power outages etc. Among other things.
