Default Ring end gap spacing?

Hey all,

I've searched to no avail the formula used to determine the ring end gap needed when installing new rings. This is for my 15HP Pattin with a 9" bore.

Thanks!

I use .004" per inch of bore minimum, .036" on your engine, more doesn't hurt, you don't want the ends to meet when hot.

Over the years I have used Wiseco pistons in a variety of small engines. They recommend .004" per inch of diameter for the top ring and .005 per inch on all the others for general use. On high performance racing engines they recommend .007" and .0075"

This is the Hepolite piston / piston ring information chart I have The ring gaps are at the bottom. Repeats what people are saying but interesting chart as it also relates to piston clearances. It was being used as a bookmark in old marine engine book I bought.

Dave:

The chart is not copyable. I'd really like to print it out for hanging on the wall of my shop.

Is there any way you could include it in a post as a copyable .JPG?

Thanks!

I know I am the computer dummy here, but I tried several ways to save this where I could print it and failed each and every one. Computer said could not open this file. Any help appreciated. I don't have a teenage grand kid here to "persplain" this to Papa.

Bear:

I couldn't copy the original image in post 5 but Marv posted a direct link to it in post 8 that I could copy to a file and print.
