Default 25hp Superior

Working on a 25hp 4 cycle Superior. Trying to get the covers off the exhaust valve cage but the covers and studs are rusted together. Can anyone tell me if this cover is flat across like the intake valve cage cover or does any of it extend down into the cage at all?

The cover on mine has a round tapered feature that extends into the valve box about a half an inch. This tapered seat feature creates a seal which is why you don't see a gasket.

I could be wrong, but I think there is a gasket. I've been trying to scrape something from what I think is a seam. Iron is pretty rotten in the area.

Might have to take the valve cage off to try to tap it off from the inside.

Is this your engine now Jeremy or are you working on it for Keven?

Can't afford to work on my own right now so I'm getting my fix by working on it for/with Keven.
Believe me if it was mine now you would have gotten a pretty excited text from me!

Made a little progress today on the valve cage. Was able to get the front cover off. Inside looks pretty good except that the top two stud holes are packed with rust, the bottom were almost clean. After a good while attempting to bust it loose the decision was made to saw the top studs off. Ran out of hack saw blades.
