Default FM ZC 208 Dating My OFE

I would like to know how I can date my engine. My serial # is K 520755. I am unable to find any specific manufacturing date. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is anyway to date engines that begin with a K. These were post 1948 and that is as far as the serial number list goes. About all you can do is look for casting dates on different parts of your engine. A lot of the dates are on the block.

I understand the K stood for Kansas City. What I was told once by a man who knew a lot.

Does the block have a round access hole in the rear or is it solid? The ones with the hole were the last ones made. The ones with the solid case dating before them had a oil sight glass on the rear and the ones before those had a dip stick in the lid and no sight glass on the rear.

Where can you find the serial number? Someone I know just bought a ZC 7-8 HP. I am trying to get it going for him. It needs some work but not a lot.

All I've ever seen are on the block itself above the governor cover (small round cover). The serials are visible even with the top cover on. Some of the last engines made by fm and bell had serials on a small square looking boss above the rear access cover. Again on the block and visible with the top cover on.
