Default American Lubricator - cylinder oiler rebuild questions

I am putting a lubricator together for a half breed, it's the Powell and boson style with level glass and drip glass and two wood knobs. There is no check ball in the threaded base and it looks like one belongs there. Plus the seals at the top and bottom of each sight glass are old crud of some kind. Questions are: what do I use to seal the two glass tubes at the top and bottom nuts? What do I seal the threads with where the "T" base threads to the oil tank, plus the two caps? Lastly how big is the check ball?

Thanks
