Default 12 HP Pattin 4 Stroke

Anybody out there know what a 12 hp Pattin will weigh? This one is a 4 stroke with the flyball governor and is set up for a wico PR mag. Has the wood shoe clutch, and countershaft w/ eccentric. The bed plate has the bearings for the counter shaft as an integral casting.

My 15HP two stroke is about 4500Lbs. Not your engine, but close enough to help you get a ballpark.

Got a rain day from work so I went and collected my Pattin 12hp. Went pretty well after we extracted a 3" oak that had grown up between the flywheel and the bed plate. This engine has been in this location for about 15 yrs. I was amazed that after removing the oak the engine was free!

Looks like that tin can held up well too. That helped keep rain water out of it.

Got the Pattin home. Went to work with pb blaster and got most everything freed up. Most parts look good, so far.
Items that I know need attention: big end rod bearing
cyl. water jacket is cracked
So now I will begin taking it apart cleaning and looking for more items that need attention.

Been getting a little work done. Got the rings off and cleaned up the piston and ring grooves. Honed the cylinder, looks like it has set for awhile with water in the bottom front of the cyl. pitted pretty bad and it is in a bad place for compression. valve box and valves were in really good shape though, seats in good shape, guides fine, ex valve looks like new, so I just give the valves a good lapping and called it done.
Cyl. water jacket has had a issue with hard water at some point. side of the cyl. had a crack about 16" long and the bottom had a big crack starting at the head going back thru the water tapping and on back about another 12" this was the worst one as it was 1/8" wide in places. I cleaned them up v them out and filled them with epoxy.
Con rod bearing was a little loose, but the bearing and crank journal looked good so I set the cap up in the mill and took .015 off and snugged it up pretty good.
I have put it back together and been plumbing it up for a start up. Video coming if it runs

I have just about finished work on the Pattin, here's a short video of how easy it starts

This is another little video of the Pattin running with enough load to keep from latching out.

Nice Job !! She runs nice. I like your starting setup. Especially the kill switch on your starting lever. I want to install a starting aid on my 15 HP Reid but I don't trust the flywheels on them. They are not as beefy as some of the oilfield engines. Many tell me they would be fine but I don't feel comfy with that method. Last thing I want is a busted flywheel. Going to mount a large flat belt pulley on the sisterville clutch mounting side of the flywheel and spin her over with a flat belt driven by a 2 cyl Wisconsin motor.

I bet that will work just fine! When it's easy to start them they get started more often.

I agree. I read somewhere where its best to have a 6 to 1 ratio on the pulleys so I have a 36 inch pulley that will be driven by a 6 inch one. Plan on leaving the belt loose so it just slides on the pulley surface, and then have a 3rd pulley mounted on a pivot to tighten the belt slack and get her turning. I saw something similar done on another engine and it worked nicely. I wish you were closer to Cincinnati OH. My daughter lives near there and when I go to visit her, I get bored after a few days. If you were closer, I'd visit you and see your engine up close

Sorry for the late answer but I haven't been on here for a while. The weight of a 12 hp ekonomy is 3,500 pounds.

Nice job looks and runs great. How did you repair the crack in the cylinder water jacket ? Have any picture of the crack repair process ?
