I had a 35hp that had the serial number on the back of the mag bracket. it matched the tag. But if your engine has a mag bracket, check it out, it might be numbered.

Both of my superiors as well as all the others I have seen have had the numbers stamped in the end of the crank. Drew

As far I as know there isnt any serial # list for the "oil country" 4 cycle type Superiors. Has one surfaced somewhere? For the late model "1927 and later" 2 cycle Superiors the 1st two numbers of the serial # is the year of manufacture.

There is a number but it starts with a letter "R' one side and "L" on the other which could be left and right followed by #71 91

When we restored the 35hp. The only part that was serial # was the mag bracket. But the 20hp we have, has the wheel hubs and crank end stamped. Doug is right, I haven't seen a serial # list either. Does your head have the small plate in the middle, or the one big plate the covers the whole front of the head?.

Hey Doug or anyone else,
What is a 25 0r 30 HP superior worth these days? I have a line on a 30 and was wondering what to offer.

I have to get it pretty reasonable cause I have to haul it a long ways to get it to Washington. Also what does a 30 weigh?

Walt

Hi Walt

It depends on several factors, as with all old engines.
Lets Say best case scenario, a 25hp Superior in its working clothes, all #s match, orig paint, no cracks, welds ect. Super Good bore, tons of compression runs like a swiss clock....$4500 to $6500 range <~~ now a super shiney paint job engine that meets these spces too would bring this kind of price too. "I'm just fond of engines in thier work clothes"

The mid range of the spectrum, 25hp Superior has repairs, needs a little TLC but runs OK $2500-4500 range.

Missing parts may or may not be stuck, needs a little more than just TLC $1500 to $2500

Now These Estimates are my own. I've seen em sell for A WHOLE LOT MORE.....but I've also seen them sell for a WHOLE LOT LESS. it all depends, you know what I mean Hope to see you down here in October Walt!

The front plate is just inside of the head bolts, from what I have read the front cover reads Superior Gar Engine and this is pre 1927. the crank and flywheels have matching #'s my mag bracket is from another engine but it is the same area so I will look .Thanks
