Default Lilly/Struthers Wells Halfbreed Info Needed

I am restoring a Lilly halfbreed. Would like to find some information on paint colors used by Struthers Wells or any information about the Lilly company of Rexford, PA.

pcstrat, I have a few struthers Wells steam engines (from the oilfield) and have never seen a drop of paint on any of them, just dark gray cast. In this area I have never seen paint on a steam or halfbreed engine just years of oil and grease. We have steam cleaned them and seen a trace of #s on the wheel or on the bedplate. This is what they look like when we find them. skidmore

skidmore-thanks for the info. My engine is all surface rust at this point. Appreciate your time in responding. Lilly information seems difficult to find.

They were made in Rixford Pa. near Bradford. I have an Innis and a Farrar & Trefts with some original paint and pinstriping. Jim.

Hey Jim, would love to see pictures of the Farrar & Trefts. We have three F&Ts steam engines, Don't seem to see too many in Wv. Can't get to many of those curved spokes Engines. Skidmore

The Lilly was not made in Rexford Pa. It was made in Rixford Pa. near Bradford. I was born and raised in Rixford and still live here. The house I live in now was owned by the Lilly family. There was part of one in the woods on the hill behind my house, not sure if its still there now. As to the color If my father was still alive he could tell you. He pumped the South Penn Leases around here most of his life. Ill do some research and ask around and see what I can find out.

Neighbor down the street has some Lilly stuff. He did know of one that was around here and still running. Names Bill Nichols, give him a call. 814-465-9872. He has a large power house hit and miss that he runs in his yard on propane, but not sure of its manufacturer.

PAbooger,

Thanks for the information and phone number. I did complete the engine a few years ago and painted the bed and flywheel green. The cylinder and other parts are painted black. Attached are some pictures.

Do you have any idea how many engines Lilly actually made?
