Default What Have You Done to Your Onan Generator Today?

Maybe this will take off, maybe it won't or has been done.

I ran my 4cck under 90% load for 3 hours today then did an oil change. Ran great under load everything was in specs until I unplugged my stuff. Everything climbed (volts/hertz), throttle was closed as far it would go adjusted the carb and got everything back down. I also learned I need to buy more heavy duty cords if I want to be really prepared.

Sounds like the 3 hour run time and the 90% load did the CCK good. got er warmed up good and probably cleared out all the old fuel etc and you picked up on your rpm,s so you had to slow her back down to 1800 rpm. me i am working on a CCKB onan i am trouble shooting got no spark, but getting close got lots of good help here on the stak.

Got to be careful about packing the house with projects, work well enough when your young , but as you get older and more tired you realize your not going to get to all of them , nor do you want to. Been cleaning house a little lately. Got to get more selective in my projects, though when I can fix almost anything.

I worked on getting some of the old oil and crud off my newly acquired 44H, which looks an awful lot like an OTC.
Brake clean is doing a good job so far.
Also dug out a new set of wheels to replace the tiny lawn edger wheels on the cart.

I did nothing today to the generator but I did put an outside outlet box to run power from the gen into the house to my inverter without having to open the basement window. It was a bit of a PITA but it will make life easier in the long run.

I set up the exhaust on my 7.5 Jb. Also, installed A thru wall vent. Tomorrow I will find a place to set the battery. Then hopefully give it a long run, check the specs and make some fine tuning.

I took my little LK that is mounted on my service truck for a 20 mile ride to a neighboring town, the temperature outside was 12 degrees when I got to the job site.

I hit the prime switch for a minute then the start switch. It hesitated for a moment, as if to ask if I really wanted to do this, then rolled over a couple times & started. I plugged in my sewer machine & space heater, stood outside with a nice northwest wind blowing across my butt and the space heater about 2' away blowing on my front side. Got the sewer opened up. Said a little thank you to D. W. Onan & shut the LK off.

I think I may give the old girl a fresh change of oil this evening.

Zero degrees last evening, my inverter calved to provide a little light in my shop for some snowshoeing Scouts, so I fired up the DJA to light things up. 20 minutes of propane torch on the oil pan, one minute of glow plugs and an assist boost from the pickup and b...b...b...ba...ba...bang...bang ..bang-bang-bang.

The only one who knew anything about diesels was impressed and had 20 questions. The rest liked the light, woodstove heat and hot chocolate.

Well I got a nice little 2.7 to 3.5Kw AJ series genny for 200 bucks, cleaned points and adjusted to .o20 replaced the ground wire to the coil, dismantled and cleaned all contacts on coil and condensers, replaced breather tube, seafoamed it replaced j-box with a plastic one and hard wired in my feed line to the trailer, put a new 20 amp breaker in (was a 30A) and put the breaker in a better protected area, made new gasket for the fuel pump

replaced high tension wire and spark plug and now got it purring pretty good still misses and hunts a bit but that's another days project.

So all in all did allot! BTY Hi first post came over from the other power forum, all ways loved the Onans

If you use that 2 part paint (isocynate?? something), use a freash air supply for breathing . It will seal your lungs in one use, think needing oxygen tanks for life.

I've heard some serious horror stories about 2 part paint. One was a guy painting clearcoat after work. The crew came in the next morning and found him firmly glued to the hood, face down ... dead .

I'm using catalyzed 2 part epoxy primer. For epoxy primer and paint I paint outdoors and I wear a mask.

for any of the 2 part epoxys or isocyanurates , you should be wearing a supplied air respirator with outside air source. they are deadly as noted above.

The 2 part stuff is real nasty to your lungs. Did touch up work with just a little in a shot glass and paint bursh outside, annoying smell finally put on a carcoal mask, weasing for 2 weeks.
Painted my 1/4 of my car in garge, used 50 foot swiming pool hose, blower, and mask for positive pressure fresh air. That sickly sweat stuff also attracts moths and mosquitoes to paint , like flypaper. Paint in cool fall, less bugs on paint.

Meant to say,,,,,,, paint in cool/cold weather, like now for us in north, ( when there less bugs with wings).
