Default Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

This is an open invitation to anyone and everyone that was at the Stephenson County Antique Engine Club's 40th annual show in Freeport IL Sept 18 19 & 20 2009 to PLEASE Post any and all pictures you have of the Rawleigh and Rawleigh Schryer gas engines on display.

These were the feature engine at this years show, and I have had several people request pictures to be posted, but working on the Sawmill, I never got around to even look at any of them myself, let alone get any pictures to post of them.

I would like to see them as much as the people that have asked me for pictures.

If you have pictures from this years show, Please Share them with us.

Thank You !

Photo Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

Michael McCraken was kind enough to mail me a CD with his pictures of the Rawleighs & Rawleigh Schryer's at Freeport this year, and I will begin posting them here for him.

I would still encourage anyone else that has pictures to please post them as well. There have been quite a few people looking to see what we had there this year.

Most of Michaels pictures were in pairs of engine & tag so I could put serial numbers with many of them, but a couple engine pictures on the disc didn't have tag pictures, and there were a few extra tag pictures with no engine to match them going by the colors. He also told me that the air cooled ones didn't have tags on them so I can't provide serial numbers on them.

I have no idea who owns what engines, but as they were all on public display for everyone to see and photograph, there shouldn't be any issues with me posting them here.

If anyone can identify certain engines and who owns them, feel free to do so, and again, please submit your own pictures too if you have any.

Pictures aren't in any special order, just the way they were laid out on the disc as shot.

4th pic Rawleigh #AA16778 1 1/2hp

Thanks.... and Enjoy !

Photo Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

And three more engines in four pics... The engine in the two middle pictures is tagged Leader but I can't make out any other details on the picture of the tag. I did walk by this one myself and planned to go back for a closer look with the camera just because of the pump jack on it, but I never made it back up there. Kind of an unusual design to it. The last picture here is one of them that I couldn't find a shot of the tag, so I can't give a serial number on it. Don't know if the owner of it is on here to 'chime in' with the information or not, but we can always Hope.

1st pic F6235 6hp
2nd pic Leader tag too blurry to read in picture
3rd pic Leader with interesting pump jack
4th pic Rawleigh ???... No picture of the tag

I will post more of them later...

Group shot with owners setting by them. Please Identify if you can ?

Group shot also shows a small hopper cooled at the far end which I'm guessing is theirs also.

Still a few more pics to go yet.

Another angle of the 'group shot' of air cooled, and three more hopper cooled ones.

other side of the aircooled lineup
Rawleigh Schryer Unknown size & serial number
Unknown.... can't make out the tag... pretty good sized, maybe a 6 or 8 hp ?
Unknown.... can't make out the tag

I have 4 more engine shots to post, then may choose a few of the clearer shots of some of the tags just to show the variations of them.

Thanks again to Michael for sending me his disc. Hopefully I don't run out of storage space before I get them all posted.

Default Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

I will indentify the engines in the above posts that aren't. In post # 5 the 2nd & 3rd picture is of the same engine a 2HP Leader tagged Rawleigh Schryer.
The 4th picture is of a 1 1/2 HP Rawleigh Schryer
Post #6
1st Picture Is an early 1 /12 HP Rawleigh Schryer Model Z with the single governor weight.
The 2nd picture is a 4 HP Ziegler Schryer.
The 3rd picture is a 1 1/2 HP Rawleigh Schryer Model Z with two governor weights.
The 4th picture is a 1 1/2 HP Rawleigh.
The couple seated is Wayne & Wanda Judge Of Iowa.
The 1st air cool is the Judges'.
The 2nd air cool I brought to the show for Tom Samson.
The 3rd air cool is mine.
The 2nd picture is a 1 1/2 HP Rawleigh Schryer.
The 3rd picture is an 8 HP Rawleigh Schryer.
The 4th picture is a 1 1/2 HP Canadian Stover tagged Rawleigh Schryer.
The early 1 1/2 HP engines had a prefix of Z. When they went to the double prefix they were AA. This can be accounted for by the air cooled engines having A as a prefix. The letter prefix corresponded with the HP of the engines.

Photo Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

Thanks for ID'ing them Michael !

I just went back and re-read your e-mail and was going to let peopl know the black & yellow one was your 8HP, but it looks like you were able to identify most if not all of them for us.

Here's the last four shots of the engines from your disc.

Unknown Rawleigh made by Rawleigh Schryer
Z3923 1.5hp Rawleigh made by Rawleigh Schryer
Z4347 1 1/2hp Rawleigh made by Rawleigh Schryer
Z7048 1.5hp Raweigh Schryer

The reason I specified Rawleigh 'made by' Rawleigh Schryer on the first three here is because I noticed when I went back and looked at the tag pictures that some Rawleigh tags say made by W.T. Rawleigh and some say made by Rawleigh Schryer. I will post several of the tag shots later once I sort through them and pick out the clearest examples of each style.

If they're not frozen in my old dead computer, I just remembered that I should have a couple pictures of the clubs Rawleigh down in the Cooper Corliss building. If I can find them, I'll post that one too ASAP, if I don't find them, I'll take a couple new pictures in a couple months and post them later.

OR.... If anyone else would step up to the plate and post their pictures, then everyone can see them sooner instead of having to wait for me to try to find some.

Kind of disapointing when someone local tells you that they have pictures of all of them and then refuses to post any of them. Maybe there are some others out there that traveled to our show and took pictures that will eventually find this thread and add their later. Even if they're just different angles, or some detail shots of some of them. Whatever you have, please share.

And again, a BIG Thank You to Michael, for sharing his disc with me so we could at least get his pictures posted, and for identifying them for us.

Photo Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

Going through some of my camera folders in my computer I found one shot so far of the Rawleigh engine down at the Cooper Building behind the museum accross from the railroad.

I think it's a 6 horse, but without a tag shot, I can't say for sure if it's Rawleigh or Rawleigh Schryer, and I don't have a serial number. It's been a couple years since I looked at it. Not the greatest picture as I was maybe 15 feet away and cropped it down to this, but I will keep looking and see if I can find any other pictures of it.

Still hoping to see other peoples shots from the show as well. Michael couldn't have been the only one there with a camera !

This is a picture of my Leader 1hp (Rawleigh-Schryer) engine with an attached pump jack. Serial #9321

Also some picts of my Henney hearse also made in Freeport. IL. Shown is the engine of the Henney.

I have two other Rawleigh-Schryer engines that I'll try to find picts of. I wanted to bring these to the 2009 show, but had other commitments at another show here in MN.

Second is a Rawleigh-Schryer #Z5368 1 1/2hp

Third is a Rawleigh #AA18698 1 1/2hp

Fourth is a backside pict of the Leader #9321 -1hp with the pumpjack.

Again, I wanted to make it to the show but couldn't.

Thumbs up Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

Loren:

Thanks for the Rawleigh pictures. Even though they weren't at our show, I had someone else ask if I minded if they posted their pictures on this thread as it is the largest collection of them so far. I thought they were going to post theirs here after I gave them the OK to do so, but they put them on a different thread instead. Hopefully they will post them here as well, since it was their idea to do so.

Are your Rawleigh's on Michaels registry list ?

Also, even though its Not a Rawleigh, I love the shots of the Henney. Do you have any more pieces to it or just what's shown ?

Also do you know what chassis it's based on ? In the early years before going Packard Only, they used some Oldsmobiles, and I believe Buick and Pontiac frames from some old pictures I used to have that I made the mistake of selling 30-32 years ago.

If you can, maybe send me a PM on the Henney and try to keep this thread based on the Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer's... Thanks again for including it though !

If anyone else has any more Rawleigh pics to post, please feel free to do so, whether they were there or not. All I ask is that you mention whether they were there or not or if they were there other years in the past but not able to make it again last year, so people will know.

You may this more than I, but I've found if I have posted a pict on one post, this site won't let you post the same pict on another post. -Says it already been used. The only way I've found to post the same engine is to take more picts. I found this to be true when posted picts of my Cushman engines.

I've "RePosted" a couple of mine by changing the file name on the picture. You can either change it altogether or just and a 2 or a B or copy, or whatever to the end of it.

Cropping it down smaller doesn't change anything, as it is still the same photo unless you 'rename' it. Kind of like downloading pictures from the internet, if you try to save a second copy in the same folder, you have to change the name or it will just save the new one over the old one and you still only have one copy.

Photo Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

I finally got around to going through the tag close ups sorting them out by variations, and then picking the clearest shot of each style. Don't know if there are any other versions or not, this is all I have from Michael's disc that he sent me.

Once again, I encourage anyone and everyone that has any other pictures to please post them.

I've had a couple people comment about this thread having the largest collection of Rawleigh and Rawleigh-Schryer pictures in one place, if anyone else has any pictures to add, it will just make it that much better and easier for others to help restore their engines.

Craig: would it be possible to link this thread with Michael E. McCracken's thread about his Rawleigh registry ?

Default Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

Here's my 1-1/2hp Pittsburgh Pump Co. (Raleigh Schryer).
It's one of my easiest starting, best running engines.

Photo Re: Rawleigh & Rawleigh Schryer engine pictures wanted.

Just to add another picture to the collection, even though it wasn't at Freeport last year....

Here's a Rawleigh engine that's on one of Auman's auctions coming up October 2nd. Nice looking engine, but I have no idea what the serial number or size is.

If anyone here buys it, PLEASE contact Michael and have it added to his registry listing.
