Default Need info about my Alga "John Ericsson" steam engine

Hi,
I am new to this site and have an Alga "John Ericsson" steam engine that I am curious about. It is in excellent condition and seems to be all intact as it matches the photos on the original box. There is no extra tool as that would have been separately sold as an extra so currently it would only move the flywheel and blow the whistle. There is a funnel, extra gaskets, and what appear to be fuel blocks. I have not started it up as there are no directions other than what is on the box. I do know that it was made in the mid 1970's and was the only one that Alga made. Does anyone have any info about this engine regarding how to power it up or the value? I am more into other hobbies like wooden and tin ships of the Spanish American War. Thanks for your assistance.
Best Wishes for a healthy and happy New Year!

Hello Jim,

you have a rather rare swedish steam engine like you said from the mid 70's from Alga. Because how to power it up, you have to fill the boiler with water, best rainwater or destilled water, the fuel blocks are normal Esbit but you can use alcohol gel too if you have this. After a few minutes it will run, its a rather small pot boiler with oscilating engine but very unique in construction. About the worth, if the package is with it and its in good shape you get around 200€ here in Europe.
Hope that helped

kindest regards
Markus

Thanks for the info. It does have 2 white crystal blocks included of what I believe are the fuel blocks. The unit is in great shape (9 - 10). The box has a small tear (without loss) in the top but otherwise is fine (7 - 8). I appreciate your help.

Hello Jim,

yes this white bocks are called Esbit here in Europe. You have to put it on the burner tray fire it up, Esbit burner invented here because meths burner were to dangerous for kids toys and electrical steam engine were never popular in europe.

kindest regards
Markus

Hi Kenny,

Would you have the John Ericsson accessories or know where a person could find them?
