Hi Will
Im no expert on tractors but i think the number is a casting number and nothing to do with serial numbers as stated in the posts above.
Cheers

Hi Will,

A picture is worth a thousand words. That is a casting number.

Regards,
Wayne.

I know absolutely nothing about this subject but is it a possiblility that 1101 is a moulding or part number? Serial numbers must be rare if they are cast into the steel as every single cast would have to be changed and this goes against the rules of mass production.

Hi cobbadog,

Your correct, the 1101 number is on the pattern, and wouldn't change unless the pattern does. If the pattern was modified or redesigned the number would change. This number would be a part number.

A pattern number is not necessarily the number on the casting. The pattern shop may have its own set of numbers which are attached to the back of the pattern and would not show up on the casting itself.

However there are a number of engine manufacturers who did cast engine numbers on the engines themselves. And quite a few manufacturers cast engine numbers on their plates.

Regards,
Wayne

I'd have to say that most of R&T tractor serial numbers I've seen are stamped in the middle of the steering wheel, if not then sometimes in a couple of other places. The tractor might not have a serial number on it, I don't think R&T would be that particular about wether a tractor left the factory with a number or not.

I think someone (maybe the custodian of the Super Drive register) has the listings of the Wisconsin engine serial numbers that went into each tractor, and it maybe possible to id a tractor that way?

Hi Tractor fan, Is there a R+T Superdrive register ??? If so does anyone know who looks after it. I've just purchased tractor No 511. And yes it is stamped in the end of the steering column but not in the diff housing. Will post pic soon if any ones interested.
Cheers. Pete.

Pete, Neil Wright from Ballarat has or used to have the R&T tractor register. I'm pretty sure he has access to the original tractor record book that has the details of who bought the tractor new, which district it went to and on what date it was sold.

I haven't got the contact details of the register on me. N.Wright used to advertise the R&T register in the TOMM magazine classified help section for a number of years. I could find out in a couple of days and let you know (I don't have the TOMM magazines on me), unless someone else can help out beforehand

I'm always keen to see a photo of an R&T tractor. I'm interested to know what the original oil pressure gauges looked like. They seem to be missing from the tractors I've seen.

Thanks Tractor fan, I have a few copies of older tomm books so i will have a flick through and see what I can find. Without going out to have a look ,I think my tractor has the oil pressure gauge still on it . Its on the right hand side in between the carby and the front of the clutch housing at about the bottom of the cylinder line above the sump??? maybe. I will check it out tomorrow and get some pics too. From memory i've see a couple bolted to the top mudguard bracket to the right of the steering wheel also.
More info tomorrow. Cheers. Pete.
