Default 25-45 Crossmotor Case Tractors

Recently found a pair of 25-45 crossmotor case tractors in very poor but restorable condition. One taken apart with parts stored in sided the other always out side disasssembled. both frames etc still out in the weather. manifolds totally rusted out . wheels all look to be ok all major castings look good.

I have to make an offer on them and can't honestly remember seeing any of these sell in the recent years in my area. I have a good idea of the value of whats there in the condition it is in . Any idea if there are manifold parts available any place for these tractors as well as parts tractors in general.. what is a general value if restored to good mechanical condition but not painted so to speak left in it's work close.

Any info would be be a great help. pm values if you would rather not talk that here..
Thanks John in wet windy NJ

A nicely restored one sold at auction in 2002 for 14 grand. They probably have gone up since then.

Making an offer to someone not in the hobby is usually, but not always, a losing proposition (for you). You will usually be setting a "beat this" price for someone else. Of course you can send a buddy by with a higher "offer" price in a few months. This is called "setting" among junkers. Try asking them to name a price, as you don't like pricing other folks merchandise. This sometimes works, as it may make the owner think you know as little as he does. Then if you have to haggle, or someone else gets involved, you're still in the loop.

I just searched: 25/45 Case and got several results, mostly from Schaff's sale. We've got a couple of smaller cross motors ourselves.
Good Luck.

P.S. You guys out there in the way of the storm take care.

A nice 25-45 is a great looking tractor. Rosewood machine may be making manifolds, but I didn't look. I know they make a few crossmotor manifolds.

Correction Ed: Those of you in the way of the storm, please get out if you have been ordered to! We need to keep this community growing with old iron folks! Please be safe.

Made it thru the storm ok !! The tractors are in an old collection where there is knowledge of value.. I honestly searched the same as you. But was just putting feelers out to see some current ideas.. Just seeing if I'm getting in over my head.

The manifolds are not available from Rosewood for the 25-45. You will probably have to make a pattern to cast one or fabricate one. The 25-45 crossmotor tends to hold up better than the other sizes because the transmission and gearing are much tougher. No telling what the inside of the engine looks like its kind of like going up to a slot machine. Sounds like you could possibly have 10,000 to 20,000 worth of parts and labor tied up in each or take 2 and make 1 may save money just talking from a little experience.

Glad you are okay. Wish everyone was. If someone in the hobby is asking you to make an offer, they already know how much they want. I have been confronted by the problem before. After you make your offer, the owner will, more than likely, come back with, "I've already got an offer for that amount (or more), you will have to beat that". Next you are in an auction with someone that more than likely doesn't exist. I usually walk away from this kind of dealing. Once again....Good Luck

At this point I think the offer end is no problem and has been taken care of.

As for the tractors both are taken apart to the wheels frame and engine block most of the parts stored inside. can see inside the engine. figured 20k plus to restore one right. maybe find someone who wants to do the second one at the same time.. or just use it for parts.. either way to help defer the cost. would be no problem to make a nice manifold outta pipe etc.. . will do most of the work myself. Have had several early cross engine tractors in the past but have been away from the hobby for almost 10 years so my idea of value is a little off. hard to imagine the prices tractors are bringing today..
Do you think a nice restored one would fetch 25k or more today ???

The silence is deafening from where I sit, you should just see the posts when someone has an auction and folks pontificate on the hammer prices before the sale. seeing as no one must be keeping track of such things here is the hammer prices I have kept track of:
$10,250/$16,000/$15,400/$10,250/$16,000/$9100/$9900/$2400/$8500/$13,000/$17,500/$9600/$12,000

One recently sold in Canada 1st part of October I don't have that result, another recently sold from the southern states and went to New York private sale I guess it was between $7500-$8500

Glen I hear you there any indication as to condition on some of those tractors. Thanks for the info.. I haven't figured out why values are such a secret esp when auctions normally post their results.

I know where a 25-45 is sitting here in Texas, I'm probably going to end up restoring it for the guy, It's got most of the manifold, but needs a lot of welding, maybe if a few people need one, we can see what it will take to get some casted,

Pat

It looks like you have the parts to put one good one together. Manifold parts are available from Charlie Simpson, Duplicast Metalworks Inc.

I am restoring a 25-45, and need a several engine parts if anyone would know who might have them. I need the oil pump drive gears, the crank gear that drives the cam shaft, 4 push rods, a valve spring, the tank on the fender and air cleaner. Any leads would be appreciated.

John,
Looks like a nice find! I think both could be done, but there'd be more money involved than they are maybe worth. I'd haul the carcass home just to hope to see it run one day!

I believe Charlies lease was not renewed for the foundry and was unable to find a place to move to. He was to shut down by the end of the year. He may have some parts on hand though.

I bought this dandy 25-45 Case in 1979 for $2500 at Yorkville,Illinois...In the mid-late 1980's it took forever to sell it and I just got my money back..If I had it today I'd want at least $15,000 for it..
