I had heard of the Grand Haven plant and stopped by last Memorial Day on my way home. Like Dick, I only got to peer through the windows. I got a lot of funny looks from people passing by as I took photos from the Corps of Engineers office across the street, through the windows and behind the building.

Search for "Grand Haven BLP" or "Grand Haven Diesel Generating Plant" and you should be able to find contact info

Patrick, Thanks for posting the pictures! I was out of state on a fact finding mission that weekend so I could not make the tour. I am glad to see the Grandbury Flywheelers becoming active again. John may rub some people the wrong way but at least he is doing something. Missed you at my show but hopefully will see you soon somewhere down the road.

After three weeks in Panama and Ecuador I had a bunch of things to catch up on at home. Glad all have enjoyed the pictures. I know there were several Flywheelers at the tour taking pictures. Surely others can add to what I have done.

Patrick, thanks for the video. Have not seen or heard from you in awhile, any new iron residing at your place?

Yeah, thanks for the video. Love seeing it. Wonder if that plant is still capable of feeding the grid? Would be cool to know that the fuel they were using was put to some use.

On the tour, the plant engineer said the plant could supply to the grid but due to draconian EPA regulations they couldn't.

Hey Dewayne been traveling a lot out of the country for the job. Was supposed to leave today for another but this trip got postponed.

From Allan Wright EDGTA Branch #43:

Hello all!

I recently contacted the City of Weatherford regarding a tour of the old light plant. I found out that they have plans to demolish the plant and dismantle the engines. We have a little time before all of that happens. I was able to schedule a tour for Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 AM.

I have reserved a room at Montana’s in Weatherford for 1:00 PM following the tour for lunch and a club meeting.

I apologize for the short notice. I will need an accurate number of attendees for lunch. Please call, text or email me no later than Wednesday, May 30th.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Well, a sad day! Wish I could be there to give those old dinosaurs one last pat on the flanks and a thank you for decades of service.
