Default Attaching flywheel and armature to crank on MCCK, grease or oil or nothing?

I was reading in an engine maintenance pdf where Onan said not to grease between crank and flywheel as it will never seat properly and move around?
So what do you do? I was planning on light layer of oil on these parts before assembly.

Although grease might pose a problem as it's pretty incompressible, I can't see anything wrong with a trace of light oil. The assembly should press any extra oil out when it's being tightened. Grease....not so much.

There are a lot of anti seize compounds out there, available at any auto store, that should do the job.

Antiseize would be a filler, I think it would interfere with the fit just a tiny bit otherwise it is not antiseizing, so dont use it. At most maybe some ATF or light 20w oil. I recall the PDF said these parts would not seat - grab and it would be moving on the shaft which might loosen it up or over time wear the surfaces?.

Any tapered flywheel should be completely clean and dry when assembled. No oil. No grease. If you are concerned about corrosion, paint the parts to seal off after assembly. Any oil on the taper and yes, it can slide and shear the key. The key is there to locate the flywheel on the crank, not to provide strength.

I always just cleaned them up. Assembled them dry.

Standard mechanical practice for any tapered coupling which transmits power is as clean as possible and bone dry. Cheers Dan
