Default Onan 6.5NH bearing clip 232-0596 replacement

Hi guys, I am rebuilding an Onan 6.5NH-3CR/16004P The rotor bearing went out and I ordered a new Nachi 6205-2NKE9 bearing to replace it. In the process of removing the bearing I broke the tip of the bearing clip off. The bearing clip part number is 232-0596. The tab that holds one side broke off. I found one on flea bay for $25 and about choked. That is until I searched everywhere else and saw it was 10X that price. I would just use the broken one but it is pretty loose and I don't want it bouncing out the back side into the armature shorting stuff out. Thought about shimming it in there. What do you experts think? Is the clip really necessary? I assume so since they built it in there. What have you all done for replacements if it is broken?

I saw a price as high as $279.00!! For $25 on ebay is a bargain but still a rip off for some small stinkin' clip. Loctite makes a product called "Bearing Mount".

Onan produced a bearing kit. For the later models. That used bearing mount.

The idea is to simply to keep the bearing shell from spinning in it's bore.
Gluing the shell I think is a bad idea, make it hard to take apart later.
Is it possible to pass a small bolt and nut through the slot to do the same function?

The rear bearing needs to float, but not turn in the housing to allow for thermal growth and engine end play. You might try making one out of the stainless steel strips that are used on many wiper blades. I just pulled a CCK apart that someone had worked on. They did not align the groove in the rear housing with the clip. When the pulled the housing back on, it cracked the outer race in several spots, plus it broke the clip. It sounded like a cement mixed when I spun the generator over with a battery.

Billy, is that bearing mount kit retrofittable on a 6.5NH? What part number is that if it is? I took a piece of welding rod and whacked it with a hammer to flatten one end. I jammed it in the broken clip side of the notch to essentially shim that broken side of the clip in place and then tapped it in farther with a hammer and then bent the welding rod over. If it comes loose both sides will fall out and then. . . Don't want to think about it. I think I am going to not put that cover on for a bit and watch it to see if it shakes loose.

Same bearing/clip is used on the CCK, and I believe it's important to float in and out (axially).

Ok I've got a donor cck pulled apart. What's the best way to remove the bearing from the end bell without tearing the clip up? I do not have a press.
