Default Red Devil and Winnebago Chief

Was there any connection/relationship between the Cavanaugh & Darley (Chicago, IL) "Red Devil" (Wendel p.85) and National Engine Co. (Rockford, IL) "Winnebago Chief" (Wendel p. 323)? Thanks for any information. Don
