Default Webster AK and K magneto differences

I have a 2 ˝ hp Rock Island. It has a Webster mag stamped AK. I see a lot of type K mags around and wonder what the difference is. Can the type K be used in place of the AK. It would be great to find some literature that told all the difference in the Webster mags

They are the same the original mag when it came from Webster was stamped with the K-- for the application it was intended for The AK or BK stamp is a replacement mag the first letter designates wether the starting handle tripped from the left or right .

Thanks Mitch – Now let me make sure I have this correct. There is a K on e-bay right now. The push finger on the mag appears to be set up for a left to right trip. My Rock Island trips from the right to left. Can I just turn the push finger over or do I need to get another push finger.
Again Mitch, thanks
Bruce

You cannot turn it over because it is tapered fit.

You would need a left hand trip finger a K3 I think and would have to turn the armature shaft end for end. to make that mag work on a left hand engine meaning the mag is on the left side of the engine tripping from the rear.

Thanks Steve and Mitch.I Appreciate the information. I'll make sure I order the correct part so it will work on my engine. I decided I better order the Doc Shuster book "The Webster System" I need to better understand the mags in general
