ok, I cant believe nobody has asked. so how does the old girl weld? I imagine better than any new one! thats based on my experience with welders, I ran a big tig that looked circa WWII and if i am not mistaken it was a lincoln, best welder i have welded with to date!

OMG! Ryan how did u find that? Those are the only jobsite photos of the machine i seen! Never knew they optioned full enclosures. Note how they vented welder generator area with expanded metal, this was because they were placed by crane and sat on the ground. (sealed)
Those are d315 welders, same as mine..according to lincoln 6 built for cat in 55 and another 19 later. Hell man 1 of those might be my machine. When i bought the 2 there were allis orange with cat yellow underneath. What is that video??? Cat advertisement???? now?? when??

As for other comments, I'm not really a stick welder anymore, my work is mostly tig with a sprinkle of mig.

It welds reeeel nice according to "Tankie Jim" who found them on c-list. See "wrenchguy" videos if u can stand the amateur madness of them.

When i redid it i "candied" it up because its really uncommon, 1st one built a wanted to attract attention at shows.

Yes it could be a 600 amp miller killer.

thanks again Ryan.

i found the video, it didnt even flinch when he started welding. you have gotten the gears turning in my head now! I have a old lincoln that looks somewhat like yours but its electric, it has a electric motor insted of a diesel. also have a compressor that the compressor is shot. I may be able to take the two and make a portable trailered welder...... welder controls concern me a bit though, wonder if they are avalible or can be reworked? its all there but been in the weather,

You are welcome Mike! You and your beautiful machine were the first thing I thought of when I saw it. I'm sure you remember me drooling over it and then you started it for us at the Sandwich Show last year.

This month is National Welding Month. I saw the video on the company internal webpage. Caterpillar is doing a lot to promote welding careers. According to the American Welding Soceity: "The industry is predicting a shortage of over 450,000 skilled welding professionals by 2022."

A great machine. Any chance you can bring it to Coolsprings this June? they are featuring generators and light plants.
