I have a question on the seat mounting hardware on the early 20-35's. I'm familiar with the fixed rocker style seat pivot that the short fenders and early 20-35 full fenders had. I was researching part number AT230 which is the long flat iron that the seat fastens to. There appears to have been changes in the shape of this part but no reference of these changes in the parts book or serial number breaks when it happened.

1. This engineering department drawing is of the rear section of the 20-35 short fender tractor. Note that AT230 has a long curved shape.

2. This illustration is from the later 17-28 parts book. Previously I was unaware that the early 20-35 seat pivot had been utilized on the 12-20's (after #15993) as well. Note the shape of AT230 here.

The tractor in question is a very original #3307 full fender which is missing all the seat hardware. I originally told the owner that the seat assembly would have been the same as the short fenders....now am not so sure. Does anyone have any information as to when the seat iron changed from curved to Z shaped?

I don't have an answer to your question but have ran across this with other parts. The part will change but still retain the same part number. Most of time the letter following the part number changes but not always.

Regarding post #61.
I do not have clarifying text, but do have an opinion based on 25 years of study and viewing lots of early TCs to look for details.
I believe the early short-fender curved seat iron was not in use by production # 3307.
The curved high seat iron is an early piece that I do not recall seeing on any regular production long fender machines in person or in photos. The tractor in question is early, and I have no hard proof, but do believe your change of original thought is right.

In researching 20-35 #3307 I discovered that the first batch of long fenders...#3301 to #3325...had some parts of which I had not seen before. The fenders and front fender brace are unique to this production run of 25 so I'll start there.

1. The front fender brace for the short fender 20-35's (#3201 to #3300) was AT-176 which is pictured here. It's basically flat iron with a couple of 90 degree bends which bolted on the sides of the fuel tank saddle.

2. It appears when the wider long fenders were fitted on 3301 the front fender brace received a full length flat iron reinforcement and became AT-176A of which there is no illustration in the parts book. This was also bolted on the sides of the fuel tank saddle.

4. Starting at tractor #3326 the front fender brace was changed to the angle iron style AT-176B which was used until the end of the Big Twin Cam production. Note the different mounting arrangement on the fuel tank saddle.

Some comments here on the fuel tank saddle. It is pretty common knowledge that the fuel tank saddle started as a cast iron assembly which was later changed to a stamped steel unit. The 27-44 parts book states that the cast iron saddle AT-117 was used from 20-35 #3201 to 27-44 #250233. Starting at #250234 the stamped steel saddle AT-117B was introduced and was used until the end of production.

This can't be entirely accurate as there is no notations in the parts book of the obvious AT-117 saddle changes that happened at tractor #3326. Previous tractors all used the "short fender" style saddle with the brace that bolted on the sides. The breakdown would look like this:

AT-117...#3201 to #3325 (short fender style)
AT-117(A)..#3326 to #250233 (This part# is not in the book!)
AT-117B...#250234 to end of production (stamped steel)

Very much right on. I will say that my 2 cast saddle twins 116 has the oil gauge whole yet 146 does not have that gauge hole. Just a tad difference even though numbers are same.
