Can anyone give me any info on this Splitdorf mag on a 10-20 that I am buying? Just want to learn before I take delivery. Would love to pick one up to take apart .

Thanks.

When you have a good Splitdorf in my opinion, you have the world by the coattails. I really like those mags, but if you have to work on it send it to a professional, I worked on several and broke pieces. When you start it, has a lever to flip by the coupler to engage the impulse, if it fires and dies you may have to flip it again as it will kick out at rpm. This is the same procedure on an E4A magneto, and it should retard with the arm up same.

Like Russ Hamm said these are great mags when they are hot. Points and condensers are unavailable. You have to substitute a modern capacitor to replace the original if its bad. The points usually can be filed an cleansed to make them useable again. That said this must be an earlier 10-20 since it is equipped with this Dixie and has no oil filter. Looks like a nice tractor.

Can the splitdorf mag be swapped out for the E4A? Is that possible on these tractors?

Yes, it can. I think the coupler will even swap.

I've got the same mag with weak spark. What is a source for the condenser?

Answer! Mark's Mags 86O-537-O376 $8 not exactly like original, but unseen anyway.

Thanks
Steve
