Default Steel Wheel Cleats

Hello, New territory for me since I normally work with rubber tires. I will be working on a 15-30 MD on steel. The wheels have no cleats. I have seen pictures of tractors with individual cleats and some with what looks like angle iron cleats that are at an angle across the wheel. Were these for different soils or just operator preference?

The angle irons helped with traction. I know on a 22-36 that a friend had, the cleats did not get as much traction as the angle irons.

Some people put the cap from a recap on the wheels so they do not do damage to the surface the tractor is driven on.

You need to get a copy of the operators and parts manuals for that tractor. The parts book should show what types of cleats and lugs that were used on the 15-30

No pictures yet. I will post ASAP. I've got to do a little "logging" to get the tractor out and we are very wet right now. I have purchased a parts book off of ebay just waiting on it. I'm pretty sure it's a 1926. It will need a lot of TLC.

Thanks

Here's a picture. Block S/N 31075. I got my parts book today too. My 36 JD AO looked about like this when I got it.

Early 15-30...1925 or maybe earlier. If you crawl under the tractor there is a date on the bottom of the main casting that will get you in the ballpark. Lots of early characteristics on this one...has the heavier road wheels also.

Thanks Mark.

I found the casting date but, I can't get under it far enough to read it. Going by the block s/n it's a 1926. Lot's of questions to come.
