I have been given a Sheldon lathe that is a basket case and I would like to get it going. I am not a machinist so I may have a few stupid questions. I need to know how to wire up the motor to see if it runs. Doses the motor run in both directions? If so I need to know how to wire the forward off reverse switch.

The first thing I noticed broke was the half nut. I will get pics later today and post. Are there parts available? If not I will need advice on repairing what I have.

There is a Sheldon Lathe Yahoo group, I subscribed to it for a while after I got my Sheldon lathe, same model number as yours, incidentally...there was one guy on there that was a retired Sheldon employee, & he was good. like a walking encyclopedia. Unfortunately, there were a couple of real dicks on there too, total jerks...I quit the group after a while, but did get some good info on my lathe while I was there.
Fairly good parts stream on ebay it seems.
