Default Kelly & Lewis specs

Putting together a list of engines built by Kelly & Lewis is not easy. I have factory literature on some of these engines, which is full of technical details, but the bore and stroke and hp are mostly not quoted. This wasnít only a problem with KL either. Any help with providing bore, stroke and hp for any of these much appreciated. It will later on be published, so guesses are not good enough.

30 - 3 and 4 hp
3AO - 2.5 and 6 hp
HI
HJA
HK
HL
HR
Mk IV
MVA
VEA
VEB
VEC
VFA
VFB

The H was a 2hp, hopper cooled petrol engine with an open governor. This was followed by the HT, which I believe is the one with the enclosed governor.

The HI is the 2 stroke, crude oil engine.

It is now a long time since I started this thread. Unfortunately no answers to my questions. KL specs are really hard to find.

The HI was made between 1939 and 1943. The one in the photo was made in 1940.

Almost all of these engines, including this one, were sold to the Grain Elevators Board, and used to power silos. They were commonly called silo engines because of this. I donít think any went to WA.

At first glance the nameplate reads H7. The I is on a bit of an angle, and the horizontal line is just a scratch.

In 1949, a batch of HIA engines were made and mostly shipped to Bombay. No technical details. I suspect a slightly modified HI.
