Default Pump Designer on Drugs

Opened up an inch and a half pump my Dad picked up at a clearing sale 50 years ago and found the stupidest impeller ive ever seen.
No wonder they didn't put there name on it anywhere.
Cast iron housing, brass nuts all over and a brass impeller.
Anyone know anything about it ?

Seeing those round impellors in profile explains a lot. Mostly, how would they ever be effective?

Crikey. Certainly unusual. There's definitely some outside the box thinking happening there. Very innovative.
Can you take a picture of the other side Darryl? Something about it seems familiar to me.
Oh you gotta fix it up and get it pumping. Everyone will be curious just how well it will pump.

Cheers Scott

fascinating
what forces are happening to the fluids when operating ?

maybe the thought was to obtain the maximum pressure by having the fluid exit the impellor as near to the maximum radius from centre as possible,
this might theoretically make it more efficient?
or if not efficient,
maybe maximum pressure for minimum revs, note the large pulley?

another possibility is an attempt to make a 'no prime' pump.
i can imagine this design might actually pump air, and so create small vacuum?

as already said, now you gotta fix it and find out what it does!

on first sight it actually looks more like a rotary motor...

thanks Rod.
