Well, I didn't end up with this set. I took a helper along and he wanted the set, so it is his. Tell me how nice and/or stupid I was for that- it turned out to be a 12 wire set, with many options, housing with fuel tank, voltage, current, and frequency metering, individual indicators for emergency shutdowns, glow plug transformer, etc.

The moral of this story- never trust the "4" voltage code.

Actually, it was not either of those. There is more to the story, but I will let the recipient of this set decide if he wants to register and tell it. It has some options I have never seen before.

That depends...did you have an agreement with your helper before he decided he wanted it?

I decided to fire up my 4BFA today after a very brief power outage on Friday reminded me its been some time since it ran. I pulled a battery out of the lawn tractor, pressurized its 10 gallon stainless fuel tank via a hose and my lungs, pushed the start button and it fired to life after 10 seconds or so.

I plugged in a free standing oil heater for 10 minutes or so and saw a stable 60htz on the meter BUT I noticed the battery was not charging so will have to look into that.

Went to start the RDJC and it didn't. Found the emergency reset popped out.

Pushed it in and it worked OK. I guess it is "jealous" for attention after we got that well optioned RDJC for Radio611.

Used it.

Received a new 125' section of 10/4C SOOW cord via UPS this morning so installed male and female L15-30 ends for use with my DJC. I promptly put to work extracting the engine from one of my trucks:

I'll pull the cab tomorrow after I build a cradle for the engine.

Truck is serial number 001 of it's type so kinda worth some restoration effort.

Once again used my 12DJC for several hours today performing real work:

Task at hand is to make an engine "test run" stand. I'm going to mount this engine into this stand once complete so it can be test run. First task at hand is to make rear mountings for the stand. These are the rear pads on the engine flywheel housing, one on each side:

The holes measure 2.5" across from each other, and 3.5" distant in the vertical plane.

I used this:

After I found a couple little pieces of steel in the shop.

Needed to cut this:

to make it look like this:

then add a small piece of flat:

and the pair of weldments look like this and mount very well to the housing with a very nice fit:

Since the photos I rounded up bolts and everything mounted up very stoutly. I'll build the legs tomorrow along with the front doughnut cradle.

He purchased a 120VAC rooftop A/C unit for his truck so doesn't have to run the engine all night to be comfortable. Currently he plugs into a truck stop electrical supply and pays the fee for electrical usage while there. It is less expensive to do this than run the engine all night. This little set will be much less expensive to run than even that setup and will run both the HVAC, and refrigerator. Should even be able to power the coffee pot and I assume the power would need disciplined to not overload the set.

He only needs 120VAC, and 3kw is plenty. I offered the 4kw "BFA" set first, but he was more interested in the "AJ" citing it's physical size.

Can't tell you how much of my "crap" he has brought me from all four corners of this country and not charged me a dime for hauling, (except dinner and hot shower) so it's kinda nice to be able to give back. I really don't like the feeling of being on the take. It's the reasoning I don't trade items as someone always feels shorted eventually.
Got some feedback on the "AJ" installation today and it is working very well I'm told. I forgot to ask about fuel consumption but the set is not an oil burner at all, and starts easily. It's been through several hot spells in Texas, New Mexico, and up into Canada performing well. It was installed into a locking container behind the cab and has no problem with overheating so must be set up correctly. I should see some photos later. I'm told the a/c unit will run you out if not run on low position.
