I had the same problem. But put in the ESC number and it come up.

That one would work,but first you need to find out if it is really the problem or the actuator.

When I run 12 volts to the actuator it goes full open, so I think it is good. I just bought a new multi-meter as mine did not work good. I am going to check it out as per instructions above.

]I unplugged the speed control sensor and got a reading of 1026. I then cranked the motor and got voltage readings but the numbers were bouncing all over the place. Should it be a constant number??

were you reading AC volts? it will vary with the speed so it might jump up and down a half volt or so while cranking. 1024 ohms sounds good tho. what was the volts?

Yes it was set on AC. I need to do it again with a helper. I think I had a good connection but had to hold the prongs and reach around to push the start button. Voltage varied rapidly from 0 to 4 digits which can,t be right. But it did appear to have a decimal and seemed to be reading 3.452 at the highest reading.

There are times when an old fashioned analog meter is helpful. This might be one of those.

OK, I got busy and just got a little time for the generator. I hooked my volt meter up to the speed sensor, started the motor and set speed with vise grips to give me 225 volts on the meter on the instrument panel. Checked hertz and read 60. With the volt meter set to AC it reads 31.00 and set on DC it reads 138.00 mV with the numbers behind the decimal fluctuating. Does this look like what it should read at normal run speed??

Sounds fine. The DC readings are meaningless. The MPU is actually a tiny AC generator, nothing more.

I got my new controller yesterday, part number ESC2301-A. I need help understanding the wiring instructions. This is a quote of one instruction. Terminal 10 and 11is the MPU signal input terminal. The wiring used to connect it to the terminals must use 2 wire shield cable. The drain shield wire is to be connected to terminal 10and the other end of the drain shield wire must be cut off and taped. Is the wire on my old sensor shield cable and what does drain shield mean??

Another one says the harness used to connect terminal 1, 2, 4 and 5 must use 2.0 Omm twist pair harness. What does that mean.

Drain = shield

Just hook it up using the wire you have and following the instructions otherwise and see if it works before you go changing wire, etc.

Twisted pair cable is also called cat 5 cable. Special cable with the wires twisted around each other. Covered in a protected foil cover call the shield. Grounded at one end to stop interference from an out side source. Such as a radio,transmitter,electronic noise. Your old system should have it. But it might be a good idea to up grade. You can run with out it. But you run the risk the chance of losing control of the engine.

It works!!! I still have to make some adjustments but it started at idle speed which it would not do before, it was idled to low to run, I then turned the run speed up to get 225 volts. I am having a fuel problem and when it started skipping the speed actuator moved the throttle faster. When it shut down the actuator went full throttle so all that is working as it should. I thought I had the running problem fixed as I put in new points last week and ran it 20 minutes with no problems.

The speed sensor is 2 wire shielded cable. I did not hook up the drain wire as I did not know which wire was which. I assumed the red wire was hot and hooked it to terminal 9 and the black wire to 10 as the instructions said 10 was ground. Is that correct?? If so then I need to hook the drain wire to 10.

Thank you guys for all your help
