Default Onan MDJE - looking for documents on electrics

Hi,

My marine genset (model 6.0 MDJE-53CR/2268AA) is nearing the time when I'll need to run up the electrics after the rebuild. My plan is to get the diesel running first, then attach the generator component once I'm happy that the donk is running ok.

So, I'm now taking a lot more interest in the electrical parts, and it would be a great help if I understood a bit more about how it works. I'm pretty sure I don't have a magneticitor (spelling?) version, and I can't see any brushes. I've attached a pic showing the 3 main components that move, or hold the moving parts so that the type of generator can be clearly identified.

Does anyone have a document that explains how how my genset works, i.e. what physics it uses to generate electricity? My guess is that it's similar to an automotive alternator but I'd really like to know a bit more detail.
Also, is there a manual out there that has clear wiring diagrams so that I can reassemble the 'non-moving' parts of the generator, e.g. control panel, big resistor, etc. ?

Cheers,
Mike

Spec AA is a brushless YD generator. Others will be along with link to the manuals and schematics.

I'm attaching the production order and wiring diagram for your 6.0 MDJE-53CR/2268AA generator. I'm not sure if this is a YD generator end or not. The AB and later spec codes show up as using a YD generator end. My guide lists the following manuals for a Spec AA MDJE:

968-0220 parts
968-0562 service

Someone who has experience with this generator should be able to give you more information.

Thanks Dale. I managed to get some real food down last night. Able to sleep without soaking the bed. Chills are gone.

I was thinking about the Marine manuals and remembered this one. Got it at the factory training class. Can't find my manual list back of this one is torn but last numbers are 0405. Covers diesel and gas. Very good manual to have. I see them on ebay at times.

I asked, and I got!
Thanks to everyone for providing all my latest reading material. It really is a great help to be able to read (and re-read) this stuff at the same time as putting the bits together. Thanks again.

Cheers,
Mike
