Little Kilowatt DC Plant
I posted this a few days ago in another section but didn't get much response so am posting here. I was given this little light plant a few days ago by a 93 year old local with a memory as sharp as I have ever seen. He says it was bought new in 1947. It is tagged Little Kilowatt" by L.S.T Mfg. Co., Milwaukee, Wis. It is 115v/400w. It is powered by what I believe is a 700 series Clinton engine. The air deflector tin that had the engine tag is missing. I would love to ID this engine for replacement parts sake. At first glance on his shed floor, I assumed this to be one of the military PE-77-D units. After getting it home and sitting it side by side with the PE77, there are plenty of subtle differences. It seems like every once in a while we get lucky on a find. As this would lock up solid on turning the crank, we both assumed a stuck valve. After getting it home, I was very pleased to see that the po had nearly filled the cylinder with oil 30 years ago. How it didn't leak past the rings, I have not a clue. I would love to hear from anyone who has knowledge of this plant.
