Those charging units are pretty neat. I imagine they would serve an off grid cabin well charging batteries and powering a few lights.

Johnny,
If switch the remote/manual switch up to the remote setting on your LK, does your ammeter read about 7 amps?

My amp meter will show a discharge (swings to the left of center) when flipping to manual. I do not remember how much of a downward swing was shown, but it was very noticeable. I was not sure if that is normal. I assumed the discharge was due to supplying power to the coil, but I may be wrong. I can check tomorrow and post back exactly what the meter reads when flipping to manual if you want.

No problem. I will check it out tomorrow after work and post back in the evening. One thing I want to clarify is that the amp meter will show a discharge when immediately flipping the switch to manual. I have no clue what would happen if I tried to manually start the LK using a rope, but I would assume it would operate as normal and show a charge. I am Tooooooo Lazyyyyyyy to manually start anything that has electric start

The results: If I flip the switch to manual and rotate the crank, the amp meter will show a discharge of 5 amps depending in the rotational position of the cranks shaft. I hope this helps.

Does your amp meter show a discharge when the switch is in manual? If so, will is show a constant discharge while rotating the crankshaft?

Thanks for the update Johnny. Attached is what I'm faced with on the ammeter.
1st picture in the meter in manual mode (top center) if i select remote and then back to manual it will fire the coil. ( engine not running)
2nd pic is the meter in the remote setting ( notice the reading on the meter showing juice from the battery (engine not running)
3rd picture disregard it's a duplicate of 2
4th picture is with the engine running (shows a negative reading)
If I turn the flywheel by hand in manual mode the meter will bounce to the right.

If I leave the switch in the remote setting it will kill the battery in 24 hours. Also, I can only turn the unit off if its in manual mode, I think that's how it was set up. Not sure on the battery drainage issue though. Is your LK setup this way?

If I pull the positive wire from the left post of the meter, this is the one that is connected to the reverse current relay, the meter will run towards the right showing a positive charge while engine is running. I must have something wired wrong but I can't figure it out. I may have to make a video of the issue with some shots of the control box. What are your thoughts?

It looks to me like the wires on your meter are reversed. Showing charging with it not running, and discharge when it is running.

There are obviously other problems as well, since it discharges the battery when it shouldn't.

Sounds like someone thought that they were smarter than they actually are. Went in there and mucked it all up.

When I got the set the previous owner had put a push/pull on off switch on the control box cover. I'm thinking he didnt know how to shut it down and figured something was wrong so he added the switch. Looking at the wiring diagram everything looks correct, but I'm more mechanicly than electrically inclined. It is a new gauge but it's the same model as the old one. I do agree with you that it seems something is crossed.
