Default Battery and charging indicator

I picked up one of these LED indicator lamps for the Generator. It's a neat affair that lets you see the charging circuity status at a glance.

It's an easy two wire hookup and has some intelligence built into it. Check the website and look at the functionality.

That is something that I'd love to have in a little bit larger size. It would be great to have three lights that I could see in the daylight from about 15' away (my closest window): The two phases and the voltage. Then I could easily look out and see if the charger has died, as well as the status of it when it is running.

Nice but in an outdoor shed with no heat you might be better off with a digital numeric reading, to really see what's going on. Bat voltage varies with temp. Would be nice if the LED indicator of a good bat is temp compensated, don't know if this one is.

Just learned all this when rebuilding my Chev alternator. Link to charging voltage vs temp. http://www.tekrispower.com/pdfs/xant...20Charging.pdf
This link is for gel-cells, but car bats behave similarly, maybe curve is shifted by .1-.2 volt.

Actually, it covers wet cells too.

Agreed. Little Chinese DVMs are pretty inexpensive these days...
