Exclamation Re: Lindsay air compressor

I had the same compressor, but a little older. It had a Bosch mag with horseshoe magnets, and a different carb, otherwise identical to yours. They are neat outfits! I had to replace the big end con rod bushing on mine. The crank is open ended, like a model airplane engine, or the maytag 82 and upright engines. On my engine, the rod was one piece, with the bronze bushing pressed into the big end. A bolt and washer kept the rod on the con rod throw! On my engine, the head and cylinder were nickle plated, as was the carb.

Yeah, Ive seen a couple different mags. I dont know if they came w/ different mags or they were junk and everyone changed them. A buddy of mine has one w/ a Splitdorf. Kind a squared off horseshoe magnets. It's hard to tell in the video but this cylinder, intake, carb, exhaust is Nickel plated. Be nice if it was cheap to have it all redone. Do you know what kind or carburetor you had on yours? Was it original? Thanks, Tim

Very nice, Tim! That's the nicest running Merkel Lindsay compressor I've seen, although I've only seen two run, yours and mine! I like the crank hanger. Mine doesn't have that feature. Your compressor rocker arm is different than mine also. I've found the proper magneto for mine, a Dixie M-1. It's coming all the way from Australia!
I guarantee it will draw a crowd at any show you take it to. Mine always does.

Sounds great on the mag, Mike. Australia must be a nice place to visit. I got an original manual for my Matthews JR lightplant from there. I should of spent more time on the video. I was messing around w/ the engine a little more, and seems like it will idle down real low, sounds great. Well thanks everyone for the comments. Tim

What an amazing piece of historical engineering. This is why we hit junkyards and fencelines and behind old barns.
