Default Bought my first hit and miss engine today.

ok I'm new at this but I bought my first hit and miss engine today. A good friend of mine got it at an auction up in PA I think. He is a big collector and I had him looking for me one.
It's a Monarch 1 3/4 hp.

I have a lot of questions about it...
Hope to learn a lot from this group.

Thanks!

Welcome Larry: Your engine was made by Nelson Brothers and Tagged and sold by Monarch. Son John has one Tagged Unito. They are good runners.

I have s/n TA8600 which is tagged Maynard and, yes, they are good runners and interesting engines to watch. Mine does not have the gas tank/sub base and came to me with a Remy magneto set up which I converted to Wico like yours. Dating
a Nelson Brothers is next to impossible. John

Great choice for a first engine!...They start easy, run great, and have lots of 'monkey motion' to watch. I have a 1 1/2 with a webster mag but my favorite is my three horse Monarch tagged engine with the Wico 'EK' magneto. Nelson brothers built and sold thousands of engines under 'other' brand names and tags..
Welcome to the hobby, and "see ya' at the showgrounds" !
