Default Clinton A-300 Questions

Just picked up a little Clinton motor the other day, and I got it up and running okay, but it lost spark already, so I'm assuming the points are shot. They didn't look great and I had to file them basically down to nothing because they were so pitted. Does anyone know what kind of points will fit? The specific model number is A301JOAD if it makes a difference. Also, what spark plug should I use? It came with an AC marine plug which I'm sure isn't right.

I think you need to clean the points a lot better. Wire brush the outside and take them of the engine. There is usually a crust like surface on them and that has to be cleaned off. To me they look like there is plenty to work with. You have to clean them so they look like new. I am sure they will work just fine. I have done hundreds like that. Use a champion cj8 or j8c. Any of the j8 line will work. Good luck. Arlie

It is possible you have a bad condenser.

That was a before shot of the points, so I could put them back together correctly. The pits were so deep that I had to file them until they were basically flush. I've done a bunch of points but these are beyond saving.

Jim, should I paypal you or should I go through your website?
