My goodness Harry! And I thought I had a lot of iron at my place. I'd love to be there. Just can't make it this time of year. I hope everyone has fun and I look forward to seeing the prices of the engines and tractors. A few of the engines in the sale (the 4 HP N and the Shippensburg) are ones I used to own. The big Fairbanks tractor was originally from here in KY. It was on a farm in Shelbyville along with 2 large IH tractors (a friction drive and a big Mogul I think from the descriptions). A gent saw them and inquired about buying them. He thought the Fairbanks was the nicest one and bought it for scrap price. A few weeks later he decided he should probably try to get the others. When he got there they were gone. They had been cut up for scrap a couple weeks earlier. He got the Fairbanks running and played with it a few years. He offered to sell it in the mid 80's for $8500. I thought that was way too much money. Another guy here in KY bought it and traded it to a gent in IL for a big load of gas engines. The guy in IL traded it to Armstrong for an IH tractor. It will be interesting to see how much that $8500 investment would have appreciated.

I hope folks post an auction report with sale prices.

Just looked at the weather report. Tomorrow (Thursday) will be a great day. Friday will be a bear. High temp of 33 degrees, rain and snow showers, high winds. Saturday will be better with temps around 50 degrees. Darn I'd like to be out in that cold Texas air on Friday!

Steam photos here: http://www.smokstak.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58823

It was a long windy dusty day today and the junky junk was sold first. When they finally got to something that I wanted, it was included in a lot of too much junk! I suppose I could have abandoned the excess. The parts on the wagons are up tomorrow and then the engines and tractors go on Saturday.

Harry: I've got sweaty palms , but keep the photos coming when you can . A quote from a friend "You're killing me", you just might hear from someone in Texas .

Not so good today. It's 26 degrees with a 6 degree wind chill and 40 mph blowing snow. The parts trailers had a layer of snow over them and I was freezing my ears off! Some lucky well clothed people are going to get some real bargains today!

Photos: The way in, the parking, the field and what I should have worn. I had two jackets, blue jeans and a hat, but it wasn't enough. I'll buy my stuff off eBay after someone else braves the storm and puts it on auction.

Maybe tomorrow.

So, where and what is Hart, Texas? Out in the middle of nowhere, that's what. It looks like America's grain land - the high plains as they say. Here's a look-see on a snowy windy day...

Harry it was cold today and windy. But the food was good. The first photo is the chuck wagon. The second photo Nixons backing in a trailer full of parts to be sold inside. But near the end of the day, Sunny skys and the stage is set for the engines and the tractors. Lot of items today brought some good money even though it was COLD and yes there were some good buys.

Hi Harry, It looks like different weather than it is here. Did you expect all that cold and snow? That sure had to be a spectacular collection to see. Some people just get more than they need. They can't do justice to their things. /Familiar problem.\ Clarence

Global warming my butt - stand out in that with your ears exposed and you'll start thinking smart. If I'm lucky, it will be in the 40s today.

Tanner rumors were flying around a few days ago that it was going to bring in the mid 6 figures ($400K). Darn, I wished I'd bought it for $8500 when I had the chance! I'm like you, it will be interesting to see what the final bid will be and how far from Texas it will travel..... maybe VERY far (across the ocean).
