Default International 50T Bailer

Hello,

I'm from Belgium, and I'm restoring an old International Harvester 50T baler.
It is one of the first with the 4 cilinder Continental Y69 engine (later they had the engine from the farmall cub). But the engine block I have is cracked. I have found a second engine in the Netherlands, but that one had the same problem.
Does anybody know where I could find an engine block for it?
Would be nice if I can run it with an original engine.
I think it was build in 1947, that date is on the radiator. I have found the baler in France, where it was stored outside for decades, and its the only one I know in europe, so I really can't find parts over here.

Thanks
Greetings from Belgium
Koen

Your Y69 engine was issued by Cont'l in three variations: the "automotive" (truck, forklift etc) Y4069, the Industrial Y69, and at least one free standing Power Unit PY69...I would be surprised in all weren't exported..
Somewhere buried in my Cont'l files is which has timing chain and which has timing gears...
I do not know if all the blocks are interchangeable, but it's something to consider...
Should have a list in my files of some of the other vehicles/eqpmt the Y69 used in; might increase the possibility of finding a good one there. Will advise later.
Not familiar with their propensity for cracks or how serious; some surprising work has been done on crack repair...

Thanks,
I don't know a second in Europa, so there won't be many balers exported I think.
There are a lot of different types in continental engines, but they all have a different
bore / stroke.
We have been looking for repairing our engine, but its not only the cracks, in the cilinder wall some pieces are just missing, and the valve seats are rotten.
So it would be nice to find a spare engine block.
I know a guy in France wo has 2 bad engines for his 2 IH R52 combine, but they are also completely frozen.

Thanks
Koen

Didn't locate any Y list (engine family is 69, 91, 112 CID) so eyeballed a few likely catalogs---found as few listings...
IHC Combines---#60 1938; #61 39-41; #62 41-51, and #15 and 50AW Hay balers, all listed in 86 bearing catalog with the "early" Y4069...(see below)...
Several models of Clark Industrial Equipment Co.s smaller material movers, lifts, loaders...
A number of Gray Marine boat motor conversions--'both Clark and Gray used the whole family of engines...I'm sure all were exported...
An 86 bearing catalog lists Early and Late 69s, the early having either straight shell front main or single flange front main...no engine # given for early to late change...
May turn up more; will advise.
Straws to grasp:
Repost "looking for Y4069, Y69, PY69 etc block" or similar heading...
Check with LissterDiesel, a Moderator here located in UK, for possible advice/sympathy re' any UK sources...

Onan used one of these in a generator set, but you're going back a few years now and finding an engine in Europe is a big ask.

I'll put a few feelers out, but don't hold your breath!

We had a couple of these balers over the years,--good machines, --we also had several model 62 combines with the same engine.---I still have the engine from the last "62" and made a garden tractor, using the engine.---havent used it for many years so it does show it's age.---The tag on it shows the engine as IY-69,----never did find out why mine had the "I" in front of the Y!!! They were/are a good engine!! thanks; sonny

When I was little, dad had a Oliver pull type combine with one of these engines on it. Ran good but was under powered for the combine.

That "I" designation shows up occasionally for engines on a piece of Ag equipment, IIRC, as does an LY69, but I've not seen any explanation of those prefix letters...
