Default IH UD-16 (UDCM) Injector Pump on a Galion 118 Motor Grader

The pump for cylinders 4, 5 & 6 has finally given up. Any cheat codes to wake it up?
Two pump, type A injector pump.
Been getting a little flaky a couple times on cold start-up, the last few years.
Internal fuel leak in the pump. Been that way forever.
Drained the pump and put oil in after initial start-up..
Test ran him and 1, 2 & 3 work OK. Sluggish governor of course on just three.
This big brute has been such a sweetheart for the last 30 years.
He has his issues but any thoughts?
Hint: He sits for MONTHS sometimes.
I thought gummed up fuel in the pump but... It's not a Perkins Shibaura pump that's ultra easy to work with if it sits too long and gums up.
What am I missing?

That's a twin plunger pump, the plunger for 4,5, &6 is probably stuck. It is connected to the other plunger by the control rack, which would make the governor sluggish. Sitting for months with old fuel could likely cause it to stick. You might try a dose of ATF in the fuel, it has fixed several pumps for me. . .

Thanks for the note on ATF Ron. I'll try that next.
I have good pressure to the plungers so this sudden hang up is a shocker and a learning experience.
Do not let it sit around.
Yes, spend a little moldy money on fresh fuel regularly.
Use the stale fuel in the fire ring.
I have a dose of MMO in the final filter and have been begging the rear plunger to pick up a little red MMO and not "waste" it on the front plunger.
Ya just can't take a side cover off and use a screwdriver to move the plungers to get them freed up.
Your comment about the rack I knew but it sure knocked loose another thought about that.
If the throttle lever won't slide the rack back and forth directly, perhaps removing the side cover or the end plug will allow direct control on the rack.
If I can't push the plunger up and down, start with rotating back and forth to help the spring do the work to regain the up and down.
Thank you! Out to it!

That would be worth a try, I think. I have just filled the filters with ATF & pushed it through full strength. Rescued a couple that had gas put in them that way.

Gas? Really? Poor pump.
Shoot, IF my patience with the MMO doesn't work then I may be trying your method.
AND I've read just a couple warnings about using MMO in these OLD pumps and an O-ring or two inside.
I get very little movement back and forth on the rack (cleaned and opened the plug meant for adjusting the relationship between the two plungers) when fiddling with the throttle.
Perhaps the "torque control" and the governor are getting in the way when the engine is not running.
Thanks for stirring my brain.

I don't know what the hell your pump shop is talking about, I've used ATF in Roosamaster & RotoDiesel(CAV) pumps & never seen a "broken shaft".

I was visiting some customers (mechanics) at an airport 20 years ago and it came across the radio.
One of the dopes out on the ramp put jet fuel in a lav cart. A lavatory trailer's tank for waste...
Oh those poor injection pumps that endured gasoline and survived.

He's alive! One of the grandsons was up in the cab when the rear plunger started pumping again.
Some working the rack back and forth not running. 10-20 minutes last night. Darn stiff.
Put the torque control bumper spring back on since I had the side cover off. It was off and laying there with the screw.
Some working the tar out of the governor (more moving the rack) while running. 5-6 minutes today.
Some the "treatment" I put in the sump of the pump to try.
A fella on red power had talked about a 1/4 quart of kerosene and Seafoam mix in the sump for a short time to help clean from downstairs.
There was a dose of MMO in the final filter waiting too.
In that 5 or 6 minutes of run time, I was on the step and blade having the little boy work with the throttle (vroom!!! bahhhh... and repeat...).
I hopped off the step to look and there was Diesel squirting all over out of the 3 rear injector bleeders!
Close the little vise grip on 4 and it's running.
Close the little vise grip on 5 and it's lagging like usual. Gotta beat the engine to get 5 to pop off.
1/2" wrench on 6 and presto. i have a 5-1/2 cylinder engine again.
A little beating at that certain rpm range and 6 mean old cylinders are making sweet music for me.

Thank you!

Good, glad you got her running. Whatever works is the thing to do...
