Default Kohler 30R82-91402A

I have been searching for info on this Kohler 70's Generator with no luck. It came to me wired for 120/208-3ph. After removing the cover I see its a 12 lead genhead. My question is that I want to rewire the genset for 120/240 volt 1-ph. I don't know if this is possible with the voltage regulator it now has, or what adjustments needed. Complete ID tag info is: 30R82-91402A, serial #335477. 12 volt battery. Looking for the generator service manual? Or what ever kohler info on the genhead section.

I'll open up the controller and look at the style of the voltage regulator. But the 5075 manual looks right. Any idea of the year this genset was built?

I was able to read the controller number stamped into a small tag. Number is A-284358. Any schematics for the control panel and the generator available?
This is my winter project and I want to rewire for 120/240 volts single phase. several wires besides the 12 lead output wires come out of the genhead, Almost all smaller wires are marked some are not connected to anything just taped off. A schematic would help me understand whats going on with the rewire to single phase. Thanks to everyone

A lot of kohlers have a decal inside the generator housing listing all the different configurations for the 12 lead generator end. Single phase is going to be either the “double delta” or “zigzag” configuration. Kohler seems to usually like the zigzag configuration. You can probably use your existing regulator.

The lighter gauge leads are usually sense windings. The heavier wires are the “12 leads”. There should be letter+number markings on the 12 heavier leads. Sometimes the labels are printed on the side of the wire in a repeating pattern, but usually there is a tag wrapped around the wire near the lug. If all of the wire tags are missing, it’s still possible to figure out how to wire it the way you want but you’ll have a lot of testing to do to identify the windings.

I have schematics for the 20RZ generator that is similar but I’m not sure how similar it is to the 30R82.

I don't think either of these is exactly right for your unit but Kohler was always very consistent in how they did things. So it might give you a general ideal.

Thanks Guys, The 5074 and 5110 manuals have some good info but don't cover my 30R82. Anybody have a schematic for the controller # A-284358? or a manual number that I might be able to web search.

Thanks, Kieth

Just because they don't officially cover it, are they possibly "close enough?"

I have not been able to find any info on that part number whatsoever.

What is the spec number of the generator?

Thank You For All The Good Info. But what I want to do is to rewire the output of the generator for full power on single phase rather that load up two of the three legs. The generator is a 12 lead that I don.t have any problem rewire the 12 leads to the 120/240 "Zig Gag" the problem I'm having is the genhead to the voltage regulator wires for 120/240/1-ph output. The spec # of the genset is 91402A serial # 335477. The generator runs and makes 120/208/3 ph now.

If I was to leave it wired as is and load up 2 legs I think I will only get 2/3 of rated output? 31.25 kva divided by 3 =10.41 kva. Is That right?

Kieth
