Default Colors and dates for Deere & Mansur planter

At PAMA - the Paulson Ag Museum of Argyle - we have a number of deere & Mansur cast iron Planter can lids that have been painted by a real artist - I haven't counted lately but I think there are about 4 or 5 of them - really amazing.
We also have some spots on the wall between implement seats that I think should hold smaller artifacts LIKE the planter lids and tool box lids - So I have bought 4 or 5 in the last week or so.
In one instance I got a Deere & Mansur planter lid with a metal box attached.
I started thinking; the original Deere planter was Deere & Mansur; when did they switch and start calling it Deere? The planter, I mean.
And, what color would the planter can have been?
I was going to paint the planter lids green with yellow highlights, but MAYBE there was a different color?
I am assuming these would be before 1900 - any help identifying the year and/or the right color would be very much appreciated.
